More than 15 million readers of FHM Magazine have collectively anointed Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie as the sexiest woman on the planet. The 29-year-old star of Lara Croft Tomb Raider and Sky Captain & The World Of Tomorrow beat off competition from Nicole Kidman and Natalie Portman to snatch pole position for the first time, reports Associated Press.

FHM Editor in Chief Scott Gramling said: "Angelina Jolie embodies everything that our readers find incredibly sexy. Not only is she stunning, she is intelligent, outspoken and passionate in her beliefs and well-respected the world over for her tireless efforts on behalf of the world's refugee children."

Jolie, who is also a United Nations Ambassador for the High Commission for Refugees, will begin shooting Robert De Niro's The Good Shepherd alongside Matt Damon in the summer. She currently appears on screen opposite Brad Pitt in Doug Liman's Mr Mrs Smith, about a bored married couple who are surprised to learn that they are assassins hired to kill each other.
