Tomb
Raider star Daniel Craig and Closer star Clive
Owen have been short-listed to fill the immense
shoes vacated by Pierce Brosnan as British secret
service agent James Bond, code-name 007. Casino
Royale, penned by Ian Flemming, has been confirmed
by MGM as the next Bond movie. Martin Campbell
(Beyond Borders (with Angelina Jolie), GoldenEye)
will direct. Dame Judi Dench and John Cleese are
also attached.
According
to trivia on IMDb, the rights to Fleming's first
007 novel, "Casino Royale" - sold by him separately
very early on - now reportedly reside with Eon
Productions. The book was filmed for television
and later as a big-screen spoof, since Connery
was unavailable. In Casino Royale, James Bond
must thwart a dangerous Russian spy from winning
a baccarat game worth millions.
