Sold
Out, the UK's premier publisher of value PC titles,
has confirmed its six titles for March, with Driver
leading an impressive roster of new £4.99 releases
and timely launches for cricket and snooker titles
to coincide with new tournaments and seasons.
Developed
by Reflections and a huge success for Atari, Driver
is widely regarded as one of the most innovative
and engrossing driving games for any format. It
was the first game of its kind to introduce mission-based
levels within a sprawling map to the 3D driving
genre, and offers a wealth of car chases and dangerous
escapes as the player tours a hugely detailed
Miami, complete with waterfront and palms. Cast
as Tanner, the player is an undercover cop charged
with infiltrating a crime boss's organisation.
To this end, the player acts as a getaway driver
for the gang, becoming more and more trusted as
harder missions are completed. With its stunning
3D visuals, frenetic chase scenes and incredible
aesthetics, Driver is as fresh now as it ever
was.
Equally
realistic and well-timed is Cricket 2002, previously
released by EA to huge acclaim. Utilising the
team rosters of the 2002 season, Cricket 2002
is a breath-taking cricket title that captures
every element of the sport in full. Players have
full control over their batsmen, bowlers and fielders,
and can implement a variety of spin and place
their shots via a fine-tuned control system. Similarly,
players must also oversee the tactical side of
their game to outthink the likes of England, West
Indies, Australia or any other of the game's greatest
XIs. Dynamic camera use and supreme control make
this the definitive cricket game for any system,
and a true bargain at its new low, price point.
B17 Flying
Fortress: The Mighty Eighth is a combination of
flight simulation and airborne combat genres.
Players can control any of the positions within
the mighty bomber, opting to play as a gunner,
pilot or bomber amongst others, while a campaign
of 25 increasingly difficult missions unfolds.
Detail is the key to B17's success, and every
aspect of the respected US 'Mighty Eighth' squadron
has been faithfully recreated. Similarly, a superb
multi-player option has also been included to
allow players to control different parts of the
craft as it enters each perilous mission.
The final
two games for the currently announced March line-up
again demonstrate the versatility of the Sold
Out range. Flight Unlimited 3 is EA's remarkable
flight simulator that gives players the chance
to get to grips with 10 of the world's greatest
planes. Over 10,000 miles of fully modelled terrain
can be traversed, while 60 of the world's airports
await safe landings from the player. The line-up
is completed with the supremely playable Mutant
Storm. A deviously fast-paced blaster, Mutant
Storm harks back to the 'old skool' of video games
with the player charged with merely blasting wave
after wave of creatures as they appear on screen.
Simple in conception, Mutant Storm is one of the
most addictive shooters to appear in the last
decade.
"Sold
Out's March batch demonstrates just how we have
managed to dominate the value market over the
past eight years," commented Sales Director, Peter
Ball. "Every title in the batch is an elegantly
styled gaming classic, offering the consumer well
over 30 hours entertainment for less than they
would pay for a haircut! Any retailer missing
the profit, footfall and volumes these superb
titles generate may end up pulling their own hair
out in frustration!"
