Britain is the global hot spot for foreplay, according to a new survey by condom makers Durex. Lovers in the UK spend more time on foreplay than any other country in the world - usually 22 and a half minutes. The average across the world is 19.7 minutes with Thailand coming out bottom with just 11 and a half minutes. More than 350,000 people from 41 countries took part in the largest Global Sex survey for Durex.

France was dubbed the sexiest country with its amorous residents having the most sex - an average of 137 times a year. Greece came second with 133 times, while Japan came last with 46. The UK was above the global average of 103 and in ninth place with 119. The average worldwide age for having sex for the first time was 17.7 years, but most people in the UK lose their virginity aged just over 16 and a half (16.7).

More than a third (35%) of the thousands of people questioned have had unprotected sex without knowing their partner’s sexual history. In the UK, the figure is much higher at 48%. Tomb Raider actress Angelina Jolie was voted sexiest female celebrity and Brad Pitt sexiest man.
