Babies born with epidermolysis bullosa, known as EB for short, are known as "butterfly children" because of the terrible effects of the sometimes disfiguring disease. EB is an incurable skin condition which can cause the skin to blister and even disintegrate in the worst cases. Victims have to wear dressings to protect the skin and are often in great pain.

Actor Tom Conti and superstar model Nell McAndrew are celebrity supporters of the DEBRA charity set up to help victims of the disease. A campaign has been launched to try to raise £5 million. There are around 5,000 sufferers in this country at any one time. The disease is genetic and the effects can worsen as victims get older.
