At
Showtime's post-Emmy party at Morton's restaurant,
a casually-dressed Hank Azaria was just explaining
how he chose tennis over the awards show when
a blaze of flash bulbs went off at the entrance.
"God, it's Barbra Streisand. That's pretty cool,"
exclaimed the actor, who stars in Showtime's new
fall series Huff.
The
arrival of Streisand and husband James Brolin
upped the wattage at what until then had been
a fairly low-key affair reflecting Showtime's
failure to win any of the evening's Emmys, including
for nominee Brolin, who played Ronald Reagan in
the cable network's controversial movie The Reagans.
Actress
Rhona Mitra - glamorous in what she dubbed a "Sid
Vicious green," strapless, lace dress - had come
over from the Fox network party to check out the
pounding rhythms. She was still elated by the
dramatic acting win for James Spader, her co-star
on The Practice and the upcoming spinoff, Boston
Legal. "I felt so close because of this sort of
metamorphosis we've gone through together," she
said, referring to the transition their characters
have made from one series to the next. "I felt
as proud as a mother, sister, daughter, child.
He worked so hard, it was wonderful he got it."
