Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law are due to attend the UK premiere of their new film Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. The pair star in the sci-fi spectacular which has topped the US box office. Law plays flying ace Joe "Sky Captain" Sullivan while Paltrow is intrepid reporter Polly Perkins. They join forces to battle giant robots which threaten to take over the world. The 38 million film, set in 1930s New York, is ground-breaking because it was made without sets or locations. Instead the actors were shot in front of a blue screen and everything else in the movie is computer-generated.

Sky Captain was co-produced by Law's ex-wife Sadie Frost. Frost is expected to make an appearance at tonight's premiere in Leicester Square. The two are now on friendly terms and Law, 31, was in the audience for her Frost French fashion show last week. Law's current girlfriend Sienna Miller may also join him on the red carpet - despite the fact he did not turn up to the premiere of her film, Layer Cake, last week because he was baby-sitting his children.

Paltrow, who turns 32 tomorrow, is currently on a work break following the birth of baby Apple, her daughter by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow opens in the UK on October 1. The film also stars Angelina Jolie as a feisty one-eyed fighter pilot and Sir Michael Gambon as Paltrow's newspaper boss.
