The memory
is still a strong one for David Slonaker. An ardent
movie and television music fan growing up in the
Alle-Kiski Valley, always aware of who the composers
were, the New Kensington native can recall standing
in line at the now-closed Liberty Theater along
Fifth Avenue in New Kensington to see James Bond's
"Goldfinger." Bond girls aside, Slonaker, whose
parents, Charles and Joan Slonaker, live in New
Kensington, was captured by the magic of John
Barry, who composed the music for the early Bond
films. Those movies still seem to hold a special
place for all film composers of his generation,
he says over the phone from his home and office
in Woodland Hills, Calif.
