Scots Hollywood star Iain Glen will be awarded an degree by his alma mater. The Edinburgh-born actor will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) from the University of Aberdeen. The 43-year-old appeared opposite Nicole Kidman in the West End production of The Blue Room and his film credits include Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Gorillas in the Mist.

And in Edinburgh, world-renowned solo Scots percussionist Evelyn Glennie OBE, who is deaf, will receive an honorary degree from Edinburgh University. At the same ceremony, the leader of Scotland’s Catholics, Cardinal Keith O’Brien, and Nasa astronaut Dr Piers Sellers will also receive honorary degrees.
