Mob Film Company has tapped Glaswegian actor Gerard Butler for the title role in the multi-million pound blockbuster Robert Burns which begins filming this summer, displacing rumours the lead would be snatched by Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp. Butler recently appeared alongside Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie in the Par pic Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life.

Ian Sharples, director of Mob Film Company said: "This film has been in the planning stages for several years but as many a Hollywood director will ruefully confirm no film is absolutely 100% certain to be made until the cameras actually start to roll. Although we are hopeful it will be this summer." Burns is penned by Scottish writer Alan Sharp, whose accolades include Rob Roy and Little Treasures.
