HBO has tapped Irish actor Ciaran Hinds to play Julius Caesar in the epic drama series Rome. The production, in conjunction with the BBC, will broadcast in 2005 on HBO and BBC2, The Hollywood Reporter via Reuters reports. Rome, whose production will be based at Rome’s Cinecitta Studios with location shoots throughout Europe and North Africa, also stars Tony winner Lindsay Duncan as Servilia, Caesar’s longtime mistress.

Belfast born Hinds, 51, has pocketed appearances in 42 motion pictures including the 1981 epic Excalibur, the TV adaptation of Rules of Engagement and the 2002 movie The Sum of All Fears alongside Morgan Freeman and Ben Affleck. Ciaran Hinds recently starred as Jonathan Reiss alongside Angelina Jolie in the Paramount pic Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life and has just wrapped Terry Loane's Jonjo Mickybo.
