[ November 28th 2003 ]
Quazal,
a leading supplier of multiplayer middleware,
today announced the signing of a licensing agreement
with Eidos plc, one of the world’s leading publishers
and developers of entertainment software, to provide
the Net-Z multiplayer online middleware technology
for two upcoming Eidos titles on PlayStation 2
computer entertainment system and Xbox video game
system from Microsoft. This agreement marks the
start of a longer-term relationship between Eidos
and Quazal that will result in the development
of further Net-Z-based titles throughout 2004.
This deal represents the first in what will be
a series of major announcements from Quazal over
the coming months.
"In developing
games both in-house and with third parties, often
features such as networking get reinvented for
each title, leading to wasted engineering time.
We evaluated all the available middleware packages
and picked the best one for our needs. With Net-Z,
we’ve found a reusable solution that is flexible
enough to transcend genre differences while being
cross-platform, and which allows a rapid turnaround
on the actual implementation of online features"
said Tal Raviv, Director of Technology, Eidos.
"We're
delighted to initiate this relationship with Eidos
and look forward to becoming a close partner that
Eidos team members can rely on. At the end of
the day, we both work with the same goal in mind
-: shipping great online titles within defined
timeframes and budgets" stated Mike Drummelsmith,
Quazal's Developer Relations Manager.
