Core Design co-founders Jeremy Heath-Smith and Adrian Heath-Smith are to front a new UK development studio along with key personal from Core Design following the recent debacle surrounding the release of Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel Of Darkness and the subsequent controversial decision by publishers Eidos Interactive to port development to U.S. based studio Crystal Dynamics.

On 15 July, Eidos PLC announced that Jeremy Heath-Smith was stepping down as its Development Director and as Managing Director of Core Design. Since then, the UK publisher has been conducting a review of the Tomb Raider franchise and the studio operations of Core Design. Eidos also announced future development of the Lara Croft Tomb Raider video-game would move to U.S. based studio Crystal Dynamics, who develop the critically acclaimed Soul Reaver series.

According to CVG - who claim to have received information from an un-named source at Derbyshire-based Core Design - Operations Director Adrian Heath-Smith and Jeremy Heath-Smith have armed a new development team using key figures from Core Design Ltd in a bid to once again produce a competing force in the UK video-game development industry. An official announcement is expected September 1. No official comment from either Eidos or Core Design has been made.
