Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie has pledged 50,000 UK pounds to Liverpool's Alder Hay Children's Hospital after being enchanted by the scenery and people who treated her adopted baby son for burns incurred while filming in North Wales on Par's Tomb Raider sequel The Cradle Of Life. The donation will help support a new £10m cancer unit and out-patients department.

A spokeswoman for the hospital said: "It's a really generous offer and we're really pleased. Angelina was obviously impressed with the work we do here which is a good thing for the hospital. And the cheque will be a great boost to the appeal. We have raised over £8.7m and need another £1.3m by next May to realise our dream."

Jolie interrupted shooting in North Wales during September following an accident involving her 13-month-old adopted son Maddox. The baby was flown to Liverpool's Alder Hay Children's Hospital where he received treatment for burns caused by a kettle. A hospital spokeswoman later confirmed that the baby-boy was kept in for three days.
