Eidos
Interactive and Core Design announced today that
Lara Croft, character of one of the 1 billion
dollar game franchise, will mark her public debut
at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo
in Los Angeles on May 22. Croft, who has previously
been portrayed by models Rhona Mitra, Nell McAndrew,
Lara Weller, Lucy Clarkson, Jill de Jong and actress
Angelina Jolie, will make several appearances
on the expo floor answering questions from the
audience and talking about her newest adventure
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness.
"For
years we have wanted to introduce the real Lara
Croft to the world. We are thrilled that we could
finally convince her to take some well deserved
time off to meet her fans," stated Eidos Interactive
Vice President of Marketing Paul Baldwin. "The
chronicles of her adventures have really struck
a chord with gamers around the world and we think
they will be overjoyed to finally meet her and
talk to her in person."
"I know
my fans think I have been elusive in the past,
but this is really the first time in years I have
had the opportunity to take a break from my work
pursuits," says Croft. "I am excited to finally
have the chance to meet some of my supporters
in person. It should be a kick."
Croft
will make her debut at the Eidos Booth (South
Hall 1300) on Wednesday May 22 at 12:00 p.m. She
will make subsequent appearances at the booth
on May 22 at 3:00 pm and May 23 at 12:00 pm and
2:30 pm. Additionally, Croft can be seen at the
Sony Computer Entertainment America booth (West
Hall 2416) on May 22 at 4:00 pm and May 23 at
11:15 am and 3:30 pm.
Croft
has made a name for herself in the past six years
as the heroine of the Tomb Raider series, but
she earns her living as a writer of travel books.
The 5’9 brunette, a native of Wimbledon and the
daughter of Lord Henshingly Croft, has captivated
world attention by way of her exploits - becoming
a cultural icon and appearing on the covers of
Time magazine, TV Guide, among other publications
- yet ironically remains both an enigma and fiercely
protective of her privacy. She grew up in the
wealth and aristocracy of England, studying at
prestigious schools, but soon found that her passions
ran toward travel and adventure.
She is
an expert in many types of hand-to-hand combat
and proficient in the use of over 8 weapons ranging
from an Uzi to a harpoon gun. Croft has traveled
to over 20 countries in pursuit of her adventures.
She spends time between expeditions engaged in
extreme sports, riding her Norton Streetfighter
motorcycle and training in an assault course custom-built
on the grounds of her Surrey mansion. Her taste
in music spans from classical to U2 to trance
music.
