ESSENTIAL SOFTWARE

TRII Patch V2.0 (Download)

If you are experiencing problems with the game try this patch. This is a new version of the Tomb Raider II program file released by Core Design that addresses several level-loading and operating system compatibility problems. Also resolved loading issues with Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

TRII Golden Mask (Download)

Tomb Raider II has been re-released as Tomb Raider II Golden Mask. This includes the original Tomb Raider II game, plus five levels on a second CD. If you have the original game, you can download the extra five levels.

OPTIONAL SOFTWARE

ESCAPEplay FMV player (Download - Freeware)

If you are having trouble viewing the FMV (full motion video) files or wish to see them again, download this FMV player. Set your desktop colour depth to 16bit otherwise the application will crash.

INSTALLING THE GAME

The installation program will run OK Windows XP/2000 and should install normally. Once the installation is complete exit the autorun menu by pressing Cancel. You cannot use the Autorun menu to Play the game.

Click on the Start button and navigate to the TRII Play option. Right mouse click and select Properties from the context menu.
On the Compatibility tab tick the Run in compatibility mode and select Windows 98 Compatibility Layer from the list.

Repeat the above method for the Setup option and Tomb Raider 2 Gold (if installed)

Windows 2000 users will not have the Compatibility Layer available by default. Follow the instruction below:

Click Start, then Run. Type in:
cmd.exe and then click OK. The Command prompt will open.
CD %systemroot%\apppatch then press Enter
regsvr32 slayerui.dll then press Enter

Alternatively run this command file

Click on the link below to register and enable the Compatibility Layer in Window 2000

CompatLayer.cmd

Press Open when prompted

The message "DllRegisterServer in slayerui.dll succeeded" will be displayed. Click OK. Compatibility Layer is now available.

COMMON PROBLEMS

Extremely slow frame rate with I play the game.

Install the patch. It is intended to resolve the CD problem some users are having when the CD is being accessed continuously, which reduces the frame rate dramatically.

The game crashes with an error stating that you need a new version of tomb2.exe

You must run TRII in Win98 compatibility mode. See Installing TRII above.

I am getting seaming on some of the textures giving the game a tiled look about it.

To fix the seaming problem, do the following. Open regedit.exe in C:/windows. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Core Design\Tomb Raider II\System. Then, go to the key titled Linear Adjustment. Right click on it, and choose 'Modify.' Switch to Base Decimal, and put the number 256 in the space provided. Click OK, and you're done. The seaming problem should be eliminated.

The FMV sequences are not played or the conversation is missing.

If you have two CD-ROM drives make sure the CD is run from the first drive.

Error message when you install or start Tomb Raider :
C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.nt The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.

This issue may occur if one or more of the following files are missing or damaged.

CONFIG.NT
AUTOEXEC.BAT
COMMAND.COM

The Downloaded TR2 Gold Setup Program crashes during installation.

The Installation program needs to run with Windows 98 Compatibility Layer enabled.

After downloading the TR2 Gold Installation program open an explorer and right mouse click on the file. Select one of the Winzip options to Extract Files... and unzip the setup files into a temporary folder. Open the folder and right mouse click on the Setup.exe and select "Create Desktop Shortcut". Right mouse click on the Desktop shortcut and select Properties. On the Compatibility tab tick the Run in compatibility mode and select Windows 98 Compatibility Layer from the list. Now you can double click the shortcut to install the game.
