Games Workshop founder Ian Livingstone has been awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours list for services to the games industry. Livingstone shot to fame in 1982 when he co-wrote the first in a series of Fighting Fantasy interactive game books that sold over 15 million copies.

Ian Livingstone became Deputy Chairman of Domark in 1992 and was instrumental in the merger and flotation of Domark with technology company Eidos, being appointed Executive Chairman of the new entity Eidos plc in 1995 and subsequently Creative Director in 2002. Ian now serves as product acquisition director for Eidos following the acquisition by SCi Entertainment Group.

"I am thrilled to have been awarded an OBE," he said. "It really is a tremendous personal honour, but also recognition for the computer games industry which is a great UK success story. It's been brilliant making a career out of what is, after all, my hobby."
