Level 5: Southern Mexico | Part 1: The Unnamed Days

Treasures: 1/6
Secondary weapon: Assault Rifle plus Sticky Grenades

The brief cut scene shows Lara reaching Central America riding her motorbike. Jumping off some rocks, she lands on a road inside a forest.

[Checkpoint] Get the motorbike and drive forward down the road. Drive through the doorway ahead and follow the road to a fork. Here you have two options: left and right.

The map on the right is a simple layout of the road in this part of the level. Refer to it if you think you are lost.

Following the left hand road - First, follow the road that goes left. It makes some turns, but there are no junctions. Keep driving until you reach some fallen rocks that prevent you from getting the bike.

Entering the first courtyard of the Temple - Dismount and climb on the fallen rocks. Drop down at the other side and approach the wooden door. Grab the right part of the handle that supports the door and slide it to the right. That way you remove the support and the door falls down. [Checkpoint]

Go through the doorway and pass the first room. When you reach the outside area, use the switch on the right to close the door you just came through and open the one at the other side. Go through it and approach the gate ahead. Press the Interact button to open it.

First courtyard of the Temple - Enter the courtyard. [Checkpoint] Run forward and approach the mechanism on the circular platfrom. Grab either handle and rotate it clockwise 360 degrees.

The brief cut scene shows a side-door opening at the top of the stairs.

Drop down and go up the stairs. Go through the door you just opened and use the switch.

Another brief cut scene shows the main door opening.

Exit the room, but before going through the door you just opened, go to the ledge at the exact opposite side. Go around the corner and pick up the Treasure (1/6). (This image shows the location.)

Entering the second courtyard of the Temple - Go through the door you opened earlier. Step on the pressure plate in the middle of the room to close the door you just came through and open the one at the other side. Go through the latter to reach the second courtyard. [Checkpoint]

Second courtyard of the Temple - Draw weapons and kill the black panther that runs towards you. If you start shooting as soon as it appears while backing away at the same time, you kill the panther before it reaches you.

Getting inside the Temple - (The following sequence is shown in this page.) Approach the area with the several pillars. Jump to grab the horizontal pole jutting out from the second from the left pillar. Climb on it and jump up to grab the handhold above. Traverse to the left around the corner and jump to grab the next handhold above. Jump to grab the handhold on the next pillar to the left, then the handhold on the wall. Climb down and to the right, then upwards and right again until the camera shifts back and you are able to see a wooden beam behind you.

Jump to the beam and walk to the other side. Turn right and jump to grab the handhold on the nearby (outer) pillar. Traverse to the left and when you reach the beam, pull up. Jump to the next beam on the right (Lara's left arm) and hang from it. Traverse to the left to reach the other beam and pull up. Jump to the next beam which is at the top of the next pillar and walk to the other side. Jump to grab the white handhold on the wall and traverse to the right. Jump up to grab the handhold above and jump to grab the horizontal pole on the right. Swing and jump to the ledge beyond. [Checkpoint]

Inside the Temple - Go through the doorway on the left. Follow the tunnel and slide down to the next room. Climb on the ledge to the right and enter the next room.

Climbing to the top of the room - Jump to grab the edge of the stone block in the middle of the room and pull up. Turn left and jump to grab the crevice in the pillar. Shimmy left around the corner and jump up to grab the next crevice above. Jump to grab the ledge behind you and pull up. Go left and jump to grab the handhold on the wall. Jump to grab the next handhold above and traverse to the left. When you reach the gap, jump to grab the next handhold and traverse to the end. Release twice to grab the lower handhold and land on the ledge. Go around the ledge and climb on top of the pillar. Turn left and jump to the wooden beam. Walk to the other and step on the ledge.

Really dark room - Go to the right and around the corner to the left. Proceed forward and through the opening. Go up the stairs and hang from the edge of the opening. Drop into the dark room below. If you hanged from the side of the stairs, turn around and proceed forward. Lara will enter the dark part of the room and turn the Utility Light on automatically. Hang from the edge and drop down. Approach the doorway and Lara will turn the device off.

(Note about the Utility Light - If you enter the PDA and select Gear, you will see that Lara has a Utility Light. You cannot turn it on manually in the game, however Lara does this automatically in pretty dark areas like the previous room.)

The brief cut scene shows the next room, focusing on a metal ring and a stone block on top of a pillar.

Room with pillar and stone block at the top - Enter the next room and proceed forward to reach the opposite side. Jump tp grab the handhold on the column and climb on the ledge above. Go to the other side and jump to grab the next ledge. Pull up.

Opening the way to the secret room - (This page shows the sequence.) Go to the other side of the ledge and turn right. Use the Grapple to catch the metal ring at the other side. Walk to the right until the Grapple cable hugs the stone block. Press the Interact button to make the stone block fall off the pillar and crash through the floor, revealing a room below. [Checkpoint]

Going to the room below - Hang from the edge of the ledge and drop down. Approach the pillar and hang from either edge of the opening in the floor (as shown in this image). Release to grab the handhold below and traverse towards the alcove; to the either left or right, depending on the side you hanged from before. Release to grab the lower handhold and drop down. Turn to face the room and take a running jump to grab the horizontal pole, making sure you hold the Jump button whilst in midair to make Lara jump farther. Swing and jump to grab the handhold on the wall ahead. Traverse to the either left or right and around the corner and drop on the stairs. Then drop to the ground.

Climb on the ledge with the two lit torches and get the Jaguar Head. When you do that, the exit door is supposed to open, but the camera shows that it is jammed. Turn around and draw weapons. Lara will aim at a wooden panel that blocks the door and prevent it from dropping down (as shown in this image). Shoot it until you smash it. The door will then fall down, opening the way out.

Going back - Jump to the stone block in the middle of the room or climb on it if you are on the ground. Jump to grab the bottom of the stairs and pull up. Go up the stairs and through the doorway. [Checkpoint]

Follow the passage to a room with a mechanism. Grab either handle and rotate it anti-clockwise to open the nearby door. Go through it and turn left, then right. Stand on either side of the handle sticking out from the wall and push/ pull it to open the door. Go through it to return back to the first courtyard of the Temple. [Checkpoint]

Make your way back and up the stairs. [Checkpoint] Pass the first room and use the switch on the left (the one you used when you first entered this area) to close the door that leads to the Temple and open the other one that gets you back to the bike. Go through the doorway and return to the bike.

Driving back to the fork - Drive back to the fork you met at the beginning of the level.

Following the right hand road - Now follow the right hand way and keep driving until you reach an area that seems to be a dead end. There is a stone ramp on the left, however, that you have to drive up in order to reach the opening above. Use the alcove on the right that gives you enough space to align the bike with the ramp.

Once inside, follow the road as it goes. [Checkpoint] It makes some turns, but there are no junctions at the beginning. Keep driving until you reach a fork. The left way leads to a dead end, so go to the right.

Ball Court and road that follows - Soon enough, you will enter the Ball Court (the large area with the two stone slopes). Two mercenaries are lurking on the right, so run over them or shoot them while driving (press the R1 button). Then drive through the opening in the bottom right corner of the area. [Checkpoint]

Drive into the small building with the pressure plate in the middle. The mechanism works when you drive on the plate and not when you are on foot. It closes the door you just drove through and opens the other one in order to exit. Do that and follow the road, using the wooden ramp to jump over the deep pit. Keep driving until you reach a second small building with a pressure plate in the middle. When the exit door opens, drive through it and follow the road to the next area. Run over the black panther or kill it with your weapons.

Climbing to the calendar puzzle - You now have to climb to the ledge above and there are two way to do that:

• Climb on the stone block close to the entrance of the area and jump to grab the small white handholds on the wall. Start by climbing the wall upwards, then left. Continue by climbing the wall downwards, then left, then upwards again. Pull up onto the ledge.

• Approach the far right corner of the area and jump on the stone ramp (as shown in this image). Before Lara slides back down, press Jump to leap off the ramp and grab the handhold on the pillar. Traverse around the corner and jump up to grab the top of the pillar. Pull up and turn right. Jump to grab the stone plaform ahead and pull up. Finally, jump to grab the ledge and pull up.

Go left and enter the small area behind the low wall.

In the cut scene, Lara uses her videocamera and records the area. She explains that the Mayan calendar had only 360 days. The remaining five were the Unnamed Days during which the gates to the underworld would open.
