CRYSTAL DYNAMICS REFRESHES LARA CROFT PIXEL ART FOR 30TH ANNIVERSARY

Crystal Dynamics has updated its Lara Croft pixel art collection as Tomb Raider approaches its 30th anniversary and Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis moves towards its 2027 release. The revised collection includes artwork based on Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis and is available through the official Tomb Raider Flickr page. Crystal Dynamics announced the update at the beginning of October, the month marking 30 years since the original game was released.

Tomb Raider was developed by Derbyshire-based Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive on 24 October 1996. The game introduced British archaeologist Lara Croft and began a franchise that has expanded to include eleven mainline entries, Lara Croft spin-off games, three motion picture adaptations, promotional crossovers and merchandise. The film adaptations have featured Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander in the role of Lara Croft.

The franchise has also returned to its earlier games through Tomb Raider I-VI Remastered. The releases provide updated visuals and modernised mechanics while retaining the core gameplay of the original titles.

Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis draws on both the original Tomb Raider, developed by Core Design, and Tomb Raider Anniversary, developed by Crystal Dynamics. The game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5. Its story follows Lara Croft as she travels through Peru, Greece, Egypt and a lost island in search of the scattered fragments of the Scion, an ancient artefact associated with Atlantis.

Flying Wild Hog is developing Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics. The game is scheduled for release on 12 February 2027 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.

Crystal Dynamics has made the updated pixel art available through the official Tomb Raider Flickr album.
