ASTONISHING TRAVELS EXPANDS TOMB RAIDER LEGACY OF ATLANTIS LORE

Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics have released a new fictional feature through the in-universe magazine Astonishing Travels as part of what is proving to be a genius-level promotional campaign for Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis. Presented as a conversation between editor-in-chief Nora Bennett and columnist Julian Mercer, the feature examines an unverified theory surrounding Lara Croft's recent activities in Peru. Throughout the discussion, Bennett repeatedly challenges Mercer's conclusions and distinguishes between confirmed information and speculation.

Mercer claims to have traced Croft's movements using aviation records, local sources and satellite imagery, placing her at a remote mining airstrip in the Peruvian Andes before she travelled to an isolated mountain settlement. He also alleges that an aircraft linked to Natla Technologies arrived in the same area two days earlier carrying an unidentified American man, who later followed Croft into the mountains. Mercer argues that the sequence of events is unlikely to be coincidental, although no evidence is presented to establish a direct connection between Croft and Natla Technologies.

Much of the interview focuses on the history of Vilcabamba, the final stronghold of the Neo-Inca Empire. Mercer suggests that, although EspĂritu Pampa is widely accepted as the site of Vilcabamba, unresolved historical accounts, disputed interpretations and local traditions could indicate that additional settlements or refuges remain undiscovered elsewhere in the region. He speculates that Croft's expedition was connected to these unanswered historical questions.

The feature concludes with further speculation about the outcome of the expedition. Mercer claims Croft entered the mountains with a local guide while the unidentified man later returned injured, but says the guide did not return to the village. Bennett notes that the region is remote and dangerous and cautions against drawing conclusions. The interview ends without revealing what Croft may have found, presenting the expedition as an unresolved mystery within the fictional setting of Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis.
