SOPHIE TURNER PHOTOGRAPHED ON SET IN ALMERIA FILMING TOMB RAIDER SERIES

Sophie Turner has been photographed on set in Almeria, Spain, in costume as Lara Croft for Amazon MGM Studios' Tomb Raider series, according to La Voz de Almeria. The production had been filming for approximately one week in the Desierto de Tabernas and the El Chorrillo area of Sierra Alhamilla before moving to Plaza Pavia in the historic centre of Almeria.

Plaza Pavia was adapted for filming to represent a city with Arabic signage and market-style set dressing, including a fruit stall. Shop access in the area was restricted, and the area included production vehicles and caravans. The article states that casting agents sought men and women of all ages who are Arab or who have racialised features.

Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics announced development of a live-action Tomb Raider series in May 2024. Principal photography for the series began in January 2026. Sophie Turner is cast as Lara Croft, a British archaeologist and adventurer. The cast also includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie and Bill Paterson. The series is based on the Tomb Raider video game franchise.

The production is a joint venture between Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics. Executive producers include Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins for Wells Street Films, Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg and Timothy I. Stevenson for Story Kitchen, and Michael Scheel for Legendary Television.
