[ 31 May 2026 ]
According to a new interview published by The Telegraph, British actress Sophie Turner said her current focus is the television adaptation of Tomb Raider, in which she plays Lara Croft. The series has been developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and is expected to be released later this year. Turner told the newspaper that the project has been her main professional commitment for some time and will remain so in the months ahead.
Discussing the role, Turner said Lara Croft is very different from her own personality, describing the character as highly focused and determined. She also noted that they share an interest in history. Reflecting on her experience in long-running television productions, Turner said she enjoys developing a character "over years", a comment that may indicate plans for multiple seasons.
Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics announced the live-action Tomb Raider television series in May 2024, with principal photography beginning in January 2026. Based on the Tomb Raider video game franchise, the series stars Sophie Turner as Lara Croft and also features Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie and Bill Paterson.
The production is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics, with executive producers including Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins for Wells Street Films, Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg and Timothy I. Stevenson for Story Kitchen, and Michael Scheel for Legendary Television.
