DEVELOPERS REFLECT ON TOMB RAIDER'S EVOLUTION IN HOGMENTED PODCAST

The inaugural episode of the HOGmented Podcast has offered new insight into the development of Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis, alongside a broader discussion on creative leadership within the games industry. Featuring Tomasz Gop, Product Director and host, in conversation with Brad Auty, Associate Game Director at Flying Wild Hog, the episode explores both the philosophy behind the upcoming title and the importance of moving beyond traditional silos of expertise in game direction.

"I think Crystal have done a really good job with that IP, and I am a big fan of that Survivor trilogy. It was fun; it was a time and place for me as a gamer that felt fresh, and it felt like it was the time to twist and subvert that IP and character. These things go in cycles, and people now miss the old, classic Tomb Raider," said Brad Auty, Associate Game Director at Flying Wild Hog.

Gop responded by emphasising the trilogy's place within the wider canon of the Tomb Raider series, which charts Lara Croft's formative journey from novice explorer to seasoned adventurer across three titles: Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Reflecting on Flying Wild Hog's role in developing Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis, Auty continued: "Atlantis, the ambition and the quality being achieved on that project is a step forward for our studio. And that kind of feeds into our other projects as well."

Currently in development with Crystal Dynamics, Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis is a reimagining of the 1996 original. Built in Unreal Engine 5, the title introduces updated environments, modernised gameplay systems, enhanced audio, and revised narrative elements, while aiming to preserve the tone and character of the original. It is scheduled for release in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
