TOMB RAIDER SALES ON STEAM SHOW SHARP DIVIDE BETWEEN CLASSIC AND MODERN ERAS
[ 8 December 2025 ]
Sales estimates compiled by VG Insights suggest substantial variation in the performance of mainline Tomb Raider titles on Steam. Early entries show modest figures, with the 1996 original reaching around 312,000 sales and its immediate sequels ranging between roughly 70,000 and 109,000. Later classics, such as The Last Revelation and The Angel of Darkness, recorded approximately 91,000 and 105,000 respectively, while Tomb Raider Chronicles remained lower at just over 60,000.
The series' mid-2000s revival fared more strongly. Tomb Raider Legend reached an estimated 206,000 sales, followed by Anniversary with 469,000 and Underworld with 434,000. However, it is the modern reboot trilogy that dominates the platform. The 2013 Tomb Raider reboot amassed an estimated 10.4 million sales on Steam alone, with Rise of the Tomb Raider reaching 4.9 million and Shadow of the Tomb Raider about 1.3 million. These gains reflect not only renewed critical interest but also the franchise's heightened visibility across social media and the wider influence of viral marketing.
VG Insights notes that its figures are derived from a blend of Steam usage data, pricing patterns, and statistical modelling. The organisation emphasises that its estimates apply solely to Steam and therefore exclude sales made through consoles, physical editions, or other digital storefronts. In the absence of official figures from Crystal Dynamics and Embracer Group, third-party platform estimates remain the only available indicators of the series' performance.
