TOMB RAIDER THE CRYPT OF CHRONOS DEEP DIVE PUBLISHED
[ 2 April 2025 ]
Crystal Dynamics has published new details about Tomb Raider: The Crypt of Chronos, an upcoming adventure board game from Iconiq Studios, ahead of the project's launch on Kickstarter in May 2025. Early gameplay details were shared on the official Tomb Raider website, and pre-registration on Kickstarter is now live.
Set on the mysterious island of Kairos, Lara Croft is on a quest to uncover the legendary Chronos Artifact, a powerful relic said to control time itself. The game blends exploration, survival, and strategic decision-making, with players using six unique Lara dice to navigate dynamic levels, gather resources, and uncover secrets. Each die can be used once per round, requiring careful planning as players face challenges like dangerous tombs and treacherous enemies.
Combat and crafting are crucial elements of the game. As Lara encounters threats from both mercenaries and deadly creatures, she must craft weapons, outfits, and abilities to survive. While weapons offer efficient ways to deal with enemies, they also attract attention, adding an element of risk. Players can also create special dice and powerful abilities to aid their survival. Meanwhile, the mercenaries from rival faction Natla Tech are constantly closing in, increasing the urgency of Lara's quest. Boss fights, such as a classic battle against a powerful bear, demand precise timing and strategic preparation.
Tomb Raider: The Crypt of Chronos offers two distinct gameplay modes: the Adventure Book Mode, with structured, narrative-driven missions that last 20-60 minutes, and the Island Campaign Mode, a free-roaming experience set across an expansive map. The latter is designed for players seeking a more immersive, extended journey, lasting up to three hours.
Tomb Raider: The Crypt of Chronos launches on Kickstarter on 27 May, 2025.
