MGM REPORTEDLY LOSES RIGHTS TO TOMB RAIDER FILM
[ 29 July 2022 ]
Entertainment news magazine The Wrap is reporting MGM has lost the film rights to Tomb Raider, based on the video-game series from Square Enix, sparking a bidding war for the IP. Academy Award-winning actress Alicia Vikander is no longer attached to the project.
Previously Misha Green, executive producer of supernatural series Lovecraft Country on HBO, had been hired by MGM to write and direct the rebooted Tomb Raider motion picture sequel with Alicia Vikander onboard to reprise her role as Lara Croft.
"We can confirm the movie rights have reverted back to Crystal Dynamics, but we don't have any further comment." Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics said in a statement.
