Alicia Keys has praised Lara Croft Tomb Raider star Angelina Jolie for her part in raising awareness of the plight of millions of refugees across Africa following her widely publicised adoption of an Ethiopian girl in 2005. The singer has slammed criticism of both Madonna and Jolie during a recent press interview.

According to Alicia: "I think it's horrible, and I think it really degrades and tries to discourage people who do have a voice, who do have power, who do have money, who have the ability to reach out to people and get involved in situations. I think if you make a choice to do something positive, that shouldn't be diminished. I think that takes away from what's actually going on."

In November Keys hosted a concert in New York with supermodel Iman for Keep a Child Alive, a charity that provides drugs for people living with HIV/Aids in Africa, reports The Voice.
