Level 5: Southern Mexico

Treasures:50
Relics: 1

The Unnamed Days

(Important bug warning - You are advised to save MANUALLY at least twice each part. This level can be proved really buggy and make you unable to finish it. If you have not downloaded the PC patch, do it now. Among other fixes, the game autosaves at the beginning of each part. So, in case you activate a bug, you can load an autosave and start from the beginning of the part or level instead of the game.)

(Note - Just before the level loads, you have the option of choosing between Jungle Heavy, Shorts or Pants outfit. You can also select your secondary weapon to start with, although you can change it any time from your PDA.)

The brief cut scene shows Lara reaching Central America riding her motorbike. Jumping off some rocks, she lands on a road inside a forest.

Drive with the motorbike up the stairs, then down the next ones. Continue down the road and enter the small tunnel. Dismount and break the rectangular vase to find a Treasure (1/50). Mount the bike, take a a good run up and drive over the deep pit. Make sure you use the small white ledge in the middle of the edge. Dismount and break the vase on the right to find another Treasure (2/50). Mount the bike and follow the road as it goes left.

The cut scene gives you an outside view of the nearby building, focusing on a window that leads to a metal ring.

Outside the building - Leave the motorbike and approach the building. Vault on the two ledges and turn right. There is a vase close o the low pillar that you can break and get a Treasure (3/50). (See this screenshot for the location.)

Climbing to the window - You have to reach the window that the last cut scene showed. (The following sequence is shown in this page.) Climb on the low pillar and jump to grab the first handhold of the taller pillar. Jump straight up to grab the handhold above and traverse to the left around the corner. Jump to grab the stone ledge on the building to the left and pull up. Jump up to grab the handhold above, then next two. Jump to grab the handholds on the left and climb down a bit. Release to grab the edge of the window and pull up.

Use the Grapple to catch the metal ring of the mechanism and step backwards. As you fall off the edge, Lara's weight pulls the lever that opens the gate on the right. When it fully opens, hang until Lara's legs are just above the sill of the door. Wall run and jump to grab the edge of the doorway. Pull up and go through before the gate closes.

Inside the small room - Go to the other side of the room and get the Jaguar Head from the pedestal. Turn around and enter the alcove on the right. Break the vase and get the Treasure (4/50). There is an another alcove on the left that contains a Health Potion. Stay in this alcove and perform the Chimney Jump to reach the room above (as shown in this screenshot).

Approach the window and hang from the edge. Jump back to land on the beam. Hang from the edge and traverse around the corner of the pillar. Drop to the ground and stay alert. Two black panthers will come from the ruins on the left, but if you spent some time in the last room, they may have already reached the place. If you want a safe spot, climb on the low pillar and shoot from there.

Mount the bike and drive to the left. Turn around the corners that the low walls create until you reach an underground tunnel. Before entering, dismount and head for some Treasures. Look for some vases to the right of the tunnel entrance. Break the rectangular vase and get the Treasure (5/50). Turn having the tunnel to your back. Enter the small area on the right. You will find the next Treasure (6/50) hidden in a vase in a corner behind a plant. Turn around and look right to spot another vase that contains one more Treasure (7/50).

When you have everything, get on the bike and drive through the underground tunnel. When you exit, follow the road as it goes. It makes some turns, but there are no forks. Keep driving until you reach an area where you can see the next building. At this point, the building is no the right. The road continuous to the left, but do not go there now.

[Important bug warning - The road on the left leads to another area of the level, but you do not have to go there now. You will visit it later anyway, so avoid it for now. If you go there, you will meet a spiked pit with a wooden ramp. Just before that, the game creates a Checkpoint. If you die after this Checkpoint (and you risk to fall into the pit and die) before the game creates another Checkpoint, you will activate a bug that you will face in the third part of the level, Midgard Serpent, where the first ramp will be down and you will not be able to continue. However, if you proceed in the level as described in the walkthrough, enter the building with the first calendar puzzle and let the cut scene play, you will not activate the bug even if you die on the specific spot.]

Leave the bike and look to the left. There is a hillock with a Health Potion and a rectangular vase that contains a Treasure (8/50). (See this screenshot.) Once you get them, go up the stairs to the building. Pick up the Health Potion just to the left of the entrance and break the rectangular vase to find a Treasure (9/50). Roll through the opening to enter the building and approach the circular calendar.

In the cut scene, Lara uses her videocamera and records the area. She explains that the Mayan calendar had only 360 days. The remaining five were the Unnamed Days during which the gates to the underworld would open. She then walks to the front side of the ledge and gets a panoramic view of the Ball Court.

Xibalba

(Important bug warning - You are advised to save MANUALLY at least twice each part. This level can be proved really buggy and make you unable to finish it. If you have not downloaded the PC patch, do it now. Among other fixes, the game autosaves at the beginning of each part. So, in case you activate a bug, you can load an autosave and start from the beginning of the part or level instead of the game.)

Place the Jaguar Head on the statue in the middle of the calendar. When you do that, the calendar unlocks and you can use it.

(Note - If you are missing the Jaguar Head, you have to go back and get it from the beginning of the level. Exit this room, get the bike and drive to the left. The road leads back to the first building where you can find the item.)

Solving the first calendar puzzle - The calendar consists of three stone wheels. The headdress handle rotates the outer wheel while the jaguar handle rotates the other two (middle and inner ones). Notice that each wheel has a symbol on it. The goal here is to rotate the wheels so all symbols face towards the Ball Court (the courtyard below). Here is how you can do it:

(The following sequence is shown in this page.)

• Grab the jaguar handle and rotate it to either direction until the symbol of the middle wheel faces the Ball Court (it will be lined with the symbol of the outer wheel). As you do that, the inner wheel will also move, but it does not matter.

• Now grab the headdress handle and rotate it anticlockwise until you cannot move it farther. This action makes the inner wheel to slide back, thus separating the two wheels. (The outer wheel has been rotated and the symbol does not face the Ball Court, but you will move it back in just a while.)

• Go back to the jaguar handle and rotate it to either direction until the symbol of the inner wheel faces the Ball Court (it will be lined with the symbol of the middle wheel). This time, the middle wheel will not move.

• Once more, grab the headdress handle and rotate it clockwise to bring the symbol of the outer wheel to its original position. On doing that, all symbols face the Ball Court and the puzzle is solved.

When you do it correctly, a cut scene plays that shows some stone blocks in the Ball Court to take their correct position.

Exit the room by rolling through doorway you came from. Two panthers are waiting for you outside, so kill them. Get the bike and follow the right hand road (the left one leads back to the building where you got the Jaguar Head). You will soon meet a spiked pit that can be jumped over using the wooden ramp. Do that and continue down the road. You will meet a second spiked pit, only this time you have to drive to the small side path on the left.

Heading to the intersection - After the next turn, you will see a tunnel. Stop at the entrance and dismount. Break the rectangular vase and pick up the Treasure (10/50). Mount the bike and drive through the tunnel. Follow the tunnel until you reach an intersection. The stairs on the right lead to the Ball Court and the road ahead to the second calendar puzzle. To solve the puzzle, you need an item that you can get from a place that the left roard leads to.

Treasure hunting in Ball Court - If you want all Treasures, you need to go to the Ball Court (otherwise, skip this paragraph). Halfway down the stairs, look to the right to spot a rectangular vase. Break it and pick up the Treasure (11/50). Go down the rest of the stairs to reach the Ball Court. As soon as you enter, locate the rectangular vase on the right hand side. Break it and collect the Treasure (12/50). Turn right and approach the wall. If you take a look above, you will see that you are beneath the first calendar puzzle. Approach the plants in the right hand corner and break the vase to get the Treasure (13/50). Stay close to the first calendar puzzle and head to the other side. You will find the Treasure (14/50) hidden in vase in the corner. Now go to the exact opposite side, to what seems to be the second calendar puzzle. There is another vase here with a Treasure (15/50) hidden in it. (See this page for the location of all Treasures.) Return back and exit the Ball Court.

Road opposite the Ball Court - Drive through the tunnel opposite the Ball Court. As soon as you exit, stop and notice that there is a side path to the left (it goes upwards). Drive up there and halfway through the path look for a vase. Dismount and break it to get the Treasure (16/50). Continue down the patch, but do not exit to the main road yet. To the part where the path goes down and meets the road, look for another vase hidden in the bushes ahead. Break it and collect the Treasure (17/50). (This page shows where the Treasures are hidden.)

Continue through the main room until you reach the next tunnel. The ledges here prevent you from getting the bike, so continue on foot. Vault on the two ledges and go through the tunnel. The next road takes you the courtyard of a temple.

Courtyard of big Temple - Do not rush to enter the courtyard below, because there is a fight in progress. You will be able to see three poachers dealing with two black panthers. Two of the men are standing at the top of stairs (one on each side) while the third one remains at the bottom. When the fight is over you can proceed, but be alerted for one more black panther and one more poacher that are most probably alive at the top of the stairs. They usually fight each other to the right. There is one more poacher in front of the Temple, but he is already dead when you reach the place.

Collecting the goodies - When everything that moves is dead, you can collect the goodies from around the place. (All pick-ups and Treasures are shown in these screenshots.) First, get the Health Potion from the stone ledge that is in plain sight in the lower courtyard. Drop down and approach the left side at the bottom of stairs where you will find a vase in a small alcove. Break it and pick up the Treasure (18/50). Now go to the right hand side of the stairs. There is a wooden pole leaned against the wall and a Health Potion behind the low wall opposite the pole.

Carrying the pole, go up the stairs to the upper courtyard. Pick up the Health Potion at the top of the stairs on the left and then go to the right. There is a vase on the ledge that overlooks the lower courtyard. Break it and collect the Treasure (19/50). Turn to face the Temple and locate the vase at the top of the pillar with the hole. If you have left the wooden pole somewhere, pick it up and put it in the hole. Jump to grab the pole and climb on it. Then jump to grab the top of the pillar and pull up. Break the vase and pick up the Treasure (20/50). Drop down and approach the Temple. There is a vase in the far left corner with a Treasure (21/50) hidden in it.

Climbing into the Temple - You now have to enter the Temple. You need a wooden pole to get started; either the one you used for one of the previous Treasures or the one sticking out of one of the pillars (see this screenshot). To get this one, jump to grab the handhold on the pillar, then the pole above. Approach the pillar and then turn to face it. Press the Interact button to pull the pole out.

(The following sequence is shown in this page.) There are three pillars with holes for poles in front of the Temple. Approach the leftmost pillar and put the pole in the hole. Climb on the pole and jump up to grab the handhold on the pillar. Then traverse to the left around the corner. Jump straight up to grab the handhold above, then jump to grab the handhold of the next pillar on the left. Traverse around the corner and jump to grab the small handholds on the wall behind you. Then jump to grab the next small handholds on the right. From there, jump to the stone beam behind you and move to the other side.

Turn to face the courtyard. Jump to grab the handhold on the pillar diagonally to the left and traverse around the corners to the left to reach the stone beam. Pull up and turn around to face the Temple. Jump on the next beam on the right and hang from it. Shimmy left to reach the next beam and pull up. Jump to the beam ahead and jump to grab the handhold on the left wall. Traverse to the right around the corner and release twice to land on the ground.

Lower Temple level\ Climbing to the ledge above - Turn right and approach the broken wall. Smash the vase and pick up the Treasure (22/50). (It shown in the last screenshot of this page.) You have to reach the ledge above the Treasure, so jump to grab the horizontal pole jutting out of the pillar. Climb on it and jump to grab the next one above. Swing and jump to grab the long horizontal pole. Traverse to the very left and jump to stand on it. From here, jump up to grab the ledge above. Pull up and turn around. Jump to the top of the pillar and break the vase to get the next Treasure (23/50). Then jump back to the previous ledge.

Inside the Temple - Go to the left and drop to lower ledge. Use the Grapple to catch the metal ring and stepp off the ledge. Use the Grapple cable to climb down to the ground. Go to the other side past the pillar and enter the small alcove (as shown in this screenshot). Break the vase and pick up the Treasure (24/50). Go through the wall opening and climb on the stone ledge ahead. Jump to the L-shaped ledge and break the vase to find another Treasure (25/50). Then climb on the ledge above.

Opening the way to the secret room - You are standing on a ledge opposite the one you came from. There is a pillar in the middle of the room below and you definitely cannot miss the big stone block on top of the pillar. (The following sequence is shown in this page.) Go to the left side of the ledge and use the Grapple to catch the metal ring at the other side (the one you used before). Walk to the right until the Grapple cable hugs the stone block. Start tapping the Interact button until the stone block falls off the pillar and crashes through the floor, revealing a room below. Kill the flock of bats that comes from the hole and make your way to the ground.

Going to the room below - (See this page for the following sequence.) Approach the right hand side of the pillar and step on the lower part of the floor. Hang from the edge and release to grab the handhold below. Lara will grab onto with one hand, so press the Interact button to help her. Traverse to the left as much as you can and release to grab the small handholds below. Climb to the left until the rounded pillar is behind Lara. Jump to grab it and slide to the bottom.

Climb on the ledge with the Stone Headdress. Get it and turn around. You will be able to see the next Treasure (26/50) in an alcove ahead. To get it, drop to the ground and climb on the low broken pillar on the right. Jump to grab the handhold on the wall ahead and traverse to the lefta round the corner. Jump to the left to grab the ledge with the Treasure, shimmy left and pull up (this screenshot shows the process). Pick up the prize and drop back down.

Climbing out of the room - (The following sequence is shown in this page.) Grab the taller broken pillar to the right of the alcove where you got the Headdress and perch on it. Jump to grab the corner handhold ahead, then the next one above. Jump to grab the handhold on the left and traverse to the left. Release to grab the handhold below and traverse to the left around the corner. Jump to grab the small handholds on the wall to the left and climb a bit to the left. Jump straight up to grab the next small handholds and climb to the left around the corner.

Jump to grab the next small handholds on the left and climb to the left as much as you can. Now jump to grab the rounded pillar coming from the ceiling. Jump to grab the small stone handholds on the wall, to the right of the alcove where you got the Treasure. Climb up and jump up to grab the handhold above. Lara will grab onto with one hand, so press the Interact button to help her. Jump to the left to grab the next handold. Once again, help Lara to grab the handhold with both hands and traverse to the left. Jump up to grab the ledge, yet another time help Lara to grab the ledge with both hands and pull up.

Go around to the left and climb through the opening above the stone door to exit the Temple (as shown here).

Back to Temple's courtyard - When you exit, draw weapons and deal with three poachers that found their way here. Then return back to the tunnel you came from and get the bike. Follow the road to return back to the intersection.

Going for the second calendar puzzle - The way ahead leads to the Ball Court, so drive to the left and follow the road that gets you to a spiked pit. Jump over it by using the wooden ramp and continue down the road. Soon, you will that the road splits and converges again. Farther on, you will have to kill a black panther by shooting or running over it. Keep driving until you reach a building.

Second calendar puzzle/ Outside of the building - You can leave the bike before entering the area or burst in on bike and shoot. There are two poachers on a ledge to the right and a black panther on the ground. You can first deal with the panther, backing up to the road you came from. That way, you will not be within poachers' range. If you have spare grenades, you can throw a couple of them to the men.

Putting the bike into correct position - After solving the second calendar puzzle, the exit in the Ball Court opens. This is timed and you have about 80 seconds to get there. So, a wise move would be to put the bike into correct position, so as to be straightly available after solving the puzzle. Upon entering this area, look for an opening to the right hand side of the building. Drive there and position the bike beneath the opening. You will exit from there when the time starts ticking, so that way you will jump down and immediately get the bike. (See this page for screenshot.)

Getting inside - Go around the building and climb on the broken stairs. Turn right and pick up the Health Potion at the corner of the ledge. There is a third poacher lying dead beneath the gate (you did not kill him). To the left of his body is a vase that contains a Treasure (27/50).

Notice the golden hole in the wall to the right of the gate. Grab the movable stone block and push/ pull it just to the right of the hole (as shown in this screenshot). Pick up the wooden pole and jump on the stone block. Turn to face the wall and press the Interact button to put the pole in the hole. Lara's weight pulls the pole down and opens the nearby gate on the left. Turn to face this way, release the pole and run through the gate, rolling if necessary, before it closes. (You can also swing on the pole and jump to land close to the gate. Then go through it.)

Second calendar puzzle - As soon as you enter, you will be able to see an opening in the wall straight ahead. This is the way out and if you have followed this walkthrough, the bike should be beneath this opening. Look for a vase to the right of the opening. Break it and pick up the Treasure (28/50).

(Note - You may want to save your game here in a different slot in case you do not manage to reach the exit the first time through.)

To solve the second calendar puzzle, you have to follow the same procedure as the first one. First, place the Stone Headdress on the empty handle (on the outer wheel). Now do the following:

• Grab the jaguar handle and rotate it to either direction until the symbol of the middle wheel faces the Ball Court.

• Now grab the headdress handle and rotate it anticlockwise until you cannot move it farther. This action makes the inner wheel to slide back, thus separating the two wheels.

When you do it correctly, a cut scene plays that shows more stone blocks in the Ball Court to take their correct position. With both calendar puzzles solved, a crypt opens and a huge staue with two snake heads rises up. The stone blocks are converted into fire-breathing serpent statues and path between them retracts, revealing the exit.

The timed run - When you regain control of Lara, you have something more or less than 80 seconds to reach the Ball Court. Turn around and run to the left. Drop through the opening to land on the ground. If you have followed this walkthrough, the bike should be here, so get it and make your way back the same you came. Just make sure you do not miss the intersection and you accidentally enter the road that leads back to the first calendar puzzle.

If you fail the first time and you do not manage to reach the exit in the given time, you can load your game, but you will have to redo the puzzle. Alternatively, you can return back to the first calendar puzzle which has been reset. The only thing you have to do there is to grab the headdress handle and rotate it clockwise until the symbol of the outer wheel faces the Ball Court. Then you can start the timed run, but make sure you have parked the bike if front of the gate.

Running from the first calendar puzzle seems easier than the second one, because the road does not make so many turns. If you fall into the first spiked pit and die, the game loads the last Checkpoint which was triggered just before the pit. Do not hesitate! Get on the bike and jump over the pit again, because the countdown continues from where it was left before you die.

In the cut scene, Lara brakes and stops a few inches from a pit full of spikes. Leaving the motorbike, she notices Mayan hieroglyphs on the wall, mentioning "The Place of Fear". She understands that she has just reached Xibalba, the Mayan land of the dead.

The Midgard Serpent

(Important bug warning - You are advised to save MANUALLY at least twice each part. This level can be proved really buggy and make you unable to finish it. If you have not downloaded the PC patch, do it now. Among other fixes, the game autosaves at the beginning of each part. So, in case you activate a bug, you can load an autosave and start from the beginning of the part or level instead of the game.)

There is a switch to the right of the spiked pit, but it does not work yet because it is missing something.

Hallway with spiked pits - Get the bike and drive to the left and through the doorway. Drive down the stairs and turn left around the corner. Then turn right twice and stop at the next corner. Dismount, break the rectangular vase and pick up the Treasure (29/50). Get the bike again and drive down the next flight of stairs. Take a good run up and jump over the first spiked pit using the wooden ramp.

[Bug note - If you have come to this point and the wooden ramp is down, you have encountered a bug that was activated in the first part of the level, The Unnamed Days. Check at the bottom of the page for a possible remedy.)

There are some horizontal poles on the walls here, but do not bother with them now. Jump over the second spiked pit and dismount. Pick up the Health Potion and notice that the wooden ramps of the third pit are down. You have to raise them and here is how:

(This page shows the following sequence.) Jump to grab the horizontal pole on the left wall and climb on it. Turn to face the way you came from and jump towards the support pillar. Quickly press Jump again to leap off the pillar and grab the second pole above the first one. Swing and jump to grab the handhold on the opposite support pillar. This is a mechanism that Lara's weight lowers and raises the wooden ramps of the third pit.

Drop down and draw weapons. Two giant spiders crawl out of the second pit, so kill them. You can hang from the mechanism you used before and shoot with one hand, but you earn only a few seconds, because the spiders can still reach Lara. When both are dead, a third giant spider comes from the third pit. Take care of it too.

Get the bike and jump over the third spiked pit. Follow the hallway around to the right and stop at the next corner. Dismount and pick up the Health Potion. Get the bike again and drive through the hallway and down the flight of stairs. Dismount at the bottom of the stairs and pick up one another Health Potion. Then drive through the doorway and into the next room. Proceed forward to trigger a cut scene.

In the cut scene, Lara walks to the centre of the room and takes a look at the statues. Recording to her videocamera, Lara says "The lords of Xibalba were said to kill visitors for sport by sending them into devious trap rooms".

Room with Lords of Xibalba statues - After the cut scene, the door you came from closes and Lara finds herself trapped in this room. Draw weapons and deal with the two giant spiders and swarm of small ones. This time, you have enough space to maneuver Lara, so back up and keep a distance from the giant spiders, because as you have probably noticed from the previous time, they attack and jump on Lara.

First, get some pick-ups around the room. Facing the entrance, locate the Health Potion and the vase that hides a Treasure (30/50) on the right hand side. After getting those, approach the left side of the entrance and jump to grab the handhold on the wall. Jump straight up twice to grab the topmost handhold and traverse to the right. Jump to the right to grab the next handhold, then jump up to grab the handhold above. Finally, jump to grab the ledge on the left and pull up (this screenshot shows the jumps). Pick up the Treasure (31/50) and make your way down the same way you came. If you take a quick look around, you will see that the room has two sides (one opposite the other) with rounded pillars and skeletons hanging from them. Facing the entrance, go to the left pillars and search for three Health Potions.

Area overview - Now it is time to get an idea of what is going on here. There are seven statues in the room, but only four are sitting in front of a channel that each one leads to a niche at the centre of the room. Notice that two statues are missing their scepter. The first scepter is on the ground, really close to its statue. The other one is at the top of the intact staircase. To place each scepter, stand in front of each statue's right hand and press the Interact button. When both scepters are placed, an octagonal platform rises up at the centre of the room. Also, the four statues that are sitting in front of the channels place their scepter on their knees.

The deal is to find four Keys and place them to the niches. These along with the two pressure plates that you have not missed in front of the entrance open the exit. The Keys are hidden in four side trap rooms, but you first have to open the doors. To do that, you have to rotate the four statues that have the scepter on their knees. Grab each scepter and rotate the statue 180 degrees anticlockwise. When you do that, the corresponding door (behind the statue) opens. You can open one door at a time or all four together. It is really up to you. Also, it does not matter which way you go first, since you will visit all four anyway. We will start from the door at the top of the intact staircase and move clockwise.

Rattling House - Go up the intact staircase and through the doorway. Follow the hallway to reach a room with six sets of huge crashing stone walls. To get past them, stand close to the first set and start running when they open. As you move to the other side, the rest walls will open, so sprint through them. Get the Rattling House Key from the pedestal and turn around. Three giant spiders will come from the entrance, but they will not make it through the trap (ouch!). But be alerted in case a lucky one manages to approach.

To return back, you have to find another way than trying to pass through the crashing walls as you came. (This page shows how you can return back.) Locate the stone block in the alcove above the entrance. When the walls open, use the Grapple to catch the metal ring on the block and pull it down. Now drag it towards you. If the cable retracts, wait for the walls to open again and pull. The stone block will stop in the depression between the first set of walls.

Climb on the block and when the walls close, perform the Chimney Jump to grab the top of either wall. Pull up and run to the other side. Before dropping down, jump into the alcove above the entrance and pick up the Treasure (32/50). Walk to the edge and wait for the walls to start opening. When they do so, hang from the edge, drop down and quickly run away. Follow the hallway to return back to the room with the statues.

When you return back to the Room with Lords of Xibalba statues, a giant spider and some small ones are waiting for you. You may kill them from the stairs, otherwise go down and deal with them. Make sure you kill all small spiders now or they will bother you during the next climbing.

Climbing to the Flame House - (The following sequence is shown in this page.) Go up the stairs that lead to the Rattling House. At the top, turn right and step on the narrow ledge with the animal head. Jump to grab the stone beam ahead and pull up. Jump to grab the narrow ledge that goes around the nearby square pillar and traverse around the left hand corner. Pull up and jump to grab the rounded pillar.

Turn left to face the wall and jump to grab the small handholds. Climb down and to the right hand side, going around the corner. Jump to grab the horizontal pole behind you, swing and jump to grab the next one. Pull up on the pole and walk to the right as much as you can (be careful not to fall off the edge). From there, jump to grab the rounded pillar. (Alternatively, from the top of the second horizontal pole, jump to grab the handhold ahead and traverse to the right around the corner. Then jump to grab the rounded pillar.)

Jump to grab the narrow ledge that goes around the square pillar and traverse to the left around the two corners. Pull up and jump straight up to grab the horizontal pole with the hooked end. Traverse to the other side and Lara will automatically grab the second pole. When you reach the opposite square pillar, release to grab the narrow ledge. Traverse to the left around the corner and pull up. You may not see it from here, but there is a stone beam ahead. Position Lara at the middle of the ledge and jump forward to land on the beam safely. Then jump to the doorway.

Flame House - Before entering, break the two vases alongside the entrance and pick up the next two Treasures (33 and 34/50). Go through the doorway and as soon as you enter the Flame House, break the vase on the left to find one more Treasure (35/50).

You have to reach the other side of the room, climbing on the poles and avoiding the fire breathing statues. (See this page for the next process.) Approach the right hand side of the room and wait for the statue to stop breathing fire. Run and jump to grab the horizontal pole from the right hand side. Here you are safe. Before continuing, let's go for a Treasure. Pull up on the pole and turn around to face the entrance. Jump to grab the next pole and pull up on it. Jump to grab the edge of the alcove and pull up. Pick up the Treasure (36/50) and drop to the ground.

Again, approach the right hand side of the room and wait for the statue to stop breathing fire. Run and jump to grab the horizontal pole as before. Pull up, move a bit to the left and notice the two statues that breathe fire from the floor. When both stop breathing fire, jump to grab the pole above the second statue on the left. Quickly pull up on the pole, move a bit to the left and jump straight up to grab the small pole above. Pull up, wait for the next statue to stop breathing fire and jump to grab the next horizontal pole. Swing and jump to the safe ground ahead.

Get the Flame House Key from the pedestal and turn around.

To return back, you have to once again climb on the poles and avoid the fires. (This page shows the climbing.) Approach the left hand side of the room and jump to grab the horizontal pole. Pull up on the pole and jump up to grab the next one. Traverse to the right and Lara will automatically grab the next pole. Pull up and wait for the statue to stop breathing fire. Jump to grab the small pole ahead. You are safe here, so keep hanging from the pole. When the statue on the floor stops breathing fire, release and grab the pole below. Quickly pull up and jump towards the entrance, passing over the two fires. Follow the hallway to return back to the room with the statues.

Climbing to the Razor House - Approach the side of the room where there are four rounded pillars and skeletons hanging from them (to the left if the entrance is to your back). There is an alcove at the back where you can perform the Chimney Jump and reach the narrow ledge on the right. (This page shows the sequence.) Climb on the ledge and jump forward to grab the small handholds on the wall. Climb up to reach the handhold above and traverse to the left around the corner.

Jump to grab the small handholds on the wall to the right. Climb down and to the right as much as you can. Then jump to grab the small handholds on the next wall and climb upwards and to the right. When you reach the top, jump to grab the rounded pillar on the right. Climb almost to the top (do not perch on the pillar) and jump to the stone ledge ahead. Pick up the Treasure (37/50) and jump back to grab the pillar. Perch on it and jump to grab the next pillar, then the third one. Slide down a bit and jump to perch on the fourth pillar.

Jump to grab the narrow ledge that goes around the square pillar ahead. Traverse to the right around the two corners and pull up. Jump up to grab the horizontal pole with the hooked end and traverse to the other side. Lara grabs the other pole automatically, so keep traversing until you reach the next square pillar. Release to grab the narrow ledge below and traverse to the right around the corner. Pull up and jump to the stone beam ahead. From there, jump to the doorway.

Razor House - Go through the doorway and follow the hallway to reach the Razor House. To get to the other side is not difficult as it seems. Wait until the first row of spears is retracted and walk forward. At this point, a situational adrenaline starts, so immediately crouch before the giant moving blades reach you. As long as you stay down, you will not have problems. When the blades stop, stand up and approach the second row of spears. When they move upwards, run past them. Again, a situational adrenaline starts, so immediately crouch to avoid the moving blades. When they stop, approach the third row of spires. When they retract, run past them.

Get the Razor House Key from the pedestal and the Health Potion from the right hand corner.

Turn around to face the spears and blades and approach the right hand wall. Jump to grab the rocks and climb upwards and to the left. Jump over the spears on the left to land on top of the blade. Walk to the left and jump to the next balde on the left. Jump to grab the third blade and pull up. Finally, jump to the fourth blade which is close to the entrance. From here, jump to grab the edge of the alcove above the entrance and pull up. Pick up the Treasure (38/50) and drop down. Follow the hallway to return back to the room with the statues.

When you return back to the Room with Lords of Xibalba statues, a giant spider and some small ones are waiting for you. Kill them.

Climbing to the Jaguar House - Go up the short stairs opposite the entrance and look above to spot a metal ring on the ledge. Use the Grapple to catch the ring and climb up. Pick up the Health Potion from the right hand side and then go left. Jump to grab the flat part of the fallen pillar and pull up. Slide down the slope and jump just before reaching the end to grab the ledge in front of the doorway. Pull up and break the vase on the left to find a Treasure (39/50).

Follow the dark hallway to reach the Haguar House. Roll through the low opening at the bottom of the fallen rocks. When you stand up, look to the right for a Treasure (40/50). Then go to the end of the room to get the Jaguar House Key from the pedestal. Turn around and pick up the Health Potion from the right. Break the nearby vase to get a Treasure (41/50) and approach the fallen rocks.

Instead of rolling through the low opening, climb on the stone block to the right. Then climb on the ledge above. Do a running jump and hold the Jump button to jump farther in order to reach the alcove with the Treasure (42/50). Get it and drop back down. Follow the dark hallway to return back to the room with the statues, but have your weapons drawn, because a giant spider has climbed up here. Deal with it and drop to the room with the statues. There are two more giant spiders down here, so stay sharp!

Once you have all four Keys - Now that you have all four Keys, you can open the exit. Approach each niche (do not climb on the octagonal platform) and press the Interact button. When you place the Rattling House Key (the white one), a giant spider attacks, so take care of it. Every time you place a Key, the corresponding statue unlocks. Once you place all the Keys, push the four statues towards the octagonal platform. Now get the bike and drive it onto one of the two pressure plates. Then step on the other one.

The brief cut scene shows that these actions raise the octagonal platform, revealing an underground passage.

Really long underground tunnel - Get the bike and drive down the ramp. Keep driving down the several flights of stairs until you reach the one that goes upwards. Dismount there and break the vase on the right to get a Treasure (43/50). Mount the bike and drive up the stairs. Do not stop. With the run up you have taken, you can drive over the stone ramp on the left and jump over the rocks. When you do that, dismount and turn around. Break the vase on the right and pick up the Treasure (44/50).

Get the bike and drive down the next flight of stairs to reach a pile of rocks that prevents you from continuing with the bike. When you approach the rocks, the camera focuses on a jaguar head. This is the Xibalba Key, so make sure you get it.

Climb on the flat stone block and roll through the opening. Drop down at the other side and break the vase on the left to get one more Treasure (45/50). Then run down the next flight of stairs.

In the next cut scene, Lara discovers engravings illustrating Jörmungandr and the final battle of Ragnarök.

After the cut scene, turn around and break the vase at the bottom of the stairs on the right to find a Treasure (46/50). Then follow the tunnel to the next room.

As the cut scene unfolds, Lara enters a huge hall with a pool of shining blue water falling from the mouth of three monumental snakes representing Jörmungandr, the Midgard Serpent. She reckons that this site, along with the Mediterranean temple and the Norse remnants in Thailand probably inspired the mythological legends about the underworld, maybe because of their common point; they were guarded by undead creatures.

Room with toxic pool\ Upper level - Stay away from the toxic pool, because it will kill you instantly. Draw weapons and wait for a panther thrall that will come from the right. Kill it and do not forget to stomp it (approach it and press the Interact button) or it will rise again. If you start shooting as soon as it appears, it will drop down before it reaches Lara. When you are done with it, pick up the Health Potion from the left close to the entrance. Go to the right and then left around the corner.

[Note (Contains SPOILERS) - There is a stone block in the right hand corner (as shown in this screenshot). If you approach it, you will hear the chime signaling the Treasure. Do not look for it, because you will not find it anywhere around the stone block. The Treasure is hidden beneath the block and you will be able to retrieve it in the next part.)

(Note about the thralls - You will meet many thralls in this room and most of the times they attack in groups. The Shotgun can be proved really effective, so if you have spare bullets to use, shoot a couple of times and the thrall will fall down. You can then shoot another one and then stomp both.)

As you approach the part of the floor that is collapsed, a human-like thrall rises from the toxic water. Start shooting while backing up and it will drop down before it reaches Lara. Jump over the toxic water and draw weapons. When you turn around the corner, a Mayan thrall will rise up from the water. If you are fast and shoot it with the Shotgun as soon as it appears, it may fall back in the pool and never appear again. One more Mayan thrall will appear from behind the fallen pillar beyond and one more pair will soon arrive from the same spot. Soon enough, the last two thralls will attack. If you are in a difficult situation and all thralls are around you, you can throw a Greanade and run away. The thralls do not move fast, so the explosion will kill some of them.

Continue around the perimeter of the room, killing one more Mayan thrall on your way. When you reach the end, you will see that you are behind one of the two serpent statues.

Revealing half of Thor's statue - Climb on the stone ledge to the right of the serpent and jump to grab the horizontal pole jutting out of its nostril (as shown in this screenshot). Lara's weight pulls the head down, closing the serpent's mouth. The water stops falling and this action lowers the water level, revealing half of Thor's statue. There is a metal ring under the seprpent's chin. Do not do anything with it yet, because it opens the mouth and refills the pool.

Still hanging from the pole, turn around and swing back to the ledge you came from. Drop to the ground and go left. Climb on the rocks and jump to grab the handhold on the wall (as shown in this screenshot). Traverse to the left around the corner and go all the way to the left. Jump back to land in front of the entrance.

Climbing down to the middle level - (See this page for visual guidance.) There is a flat edge opposite the entrance (close to where you got the Health Potion earlier). Hang from there and release three times to grab the lower handhold. The last drop is a long one, so press the Interact button to save Lara. This handhold is about to collapse, so quickly traverse to the right around the two corners. Remember: to move faster, tap the Interact button along with the direction key. Jump to grab the handhold of the next pillar on the right. Again, the handhold will soon collapse, so quickly jump to land on the safe rock ledge on the right.

Room with toxic pool\ Middle level - Turn right and climb on the stone ledges. (The following sequence is shown in this page.) Jump up to grab the beam above and pull up. Start walking on the longer beam. Halfway across, the beam is not stable and it will start to collapse. You can either hang from the edge before the part that collapses and traverse to the other side or walk back, wait for the beam to collapse and jump over the gap. When you clear this situation, jump to the next set of beams and walk to the other side. Then drop to the ground.

Go to the right around the corner. Draw weapons and deal with the two Mayan thralls that rise up from the pool. If you are quick, you can blast the one with the Shotgun and throw it back into the pool. Two more thralls will appear, so take care of them too.

(This page shows the following sequence.) Approach the edge of the ledge and jump to grab the handhold on the pillar to the right. Traverse to the left around the corner and pull up on the narrow ledge to hug the wall. Perform the Chimney Jump to reach and grab the handhold of the opposite pillar. Shimmy left around the corner until you cannot go any farther. If you press the down direction key and wait for a few seconds, the camera will shift back, showing a beam you can jump to. Do that, walk to the other side and drop down.

Go to the end and climb on the stone block to the right. Pick up the Health Potion and proceed to the other side. Take a look above and behind the statue to spot the metal ring. Use the Grapple to catch it and swing across.

(See this page for visual guidance.) When you land on the stone block at the other side, turn around. Use the Grapple to catch the metal ring on Thor's shield to the left. Then pull it towards to you. Jump to grab the narrow ledge on the shield and traverse all the way to the left. Jump to grab the handhold on the pillar behind you and shimmy left around the two corners. Hang from the third corner of the handhold and jump to the safe ledge behind you.

Draw weapons and kill the two thralls that rise up from the water. If you are fast, you can blast the one with the Shotgun and throw it back in the pool. When both are dead, a second pair of thralls arrives. Take care of them too. Then pick up the Health Potion and break the vase to find a Treasure (47/50) close to where you landed.

Revealing the other half of Thor's statue - You are standing behind the second serpent statue. Climb on the stone ledge to the right of the statue and jump to grab the handhold on the pillar to the left (as shown in this screenshot). Jump up to grab the handhold above and travese around the corner. Now jump to grab the horizontal pole. Once again, Lara's weight closes the serpent's mouth, blocking the water from falling down. This action lowers the water level even more, revealing the other half of Thor's statue along with a platform in the middle of the pool.

Still hanging from the pole, turn around. Swing back to the stone ledge and hang from the edge. Traverse to the right to grab the handhold of the pillar. Release twice to land on the square ledge above the toxic water. Turn around and jump to the platform.

Lower level - Kill the two Mayan thralls that appear. Turn to face Thor's statue and go to the far left corner of the platform. Jump to the square ledge above the toxic water and climb on the stone block above where you will find one more Treasure (48/50). Make you way back to the platform. (See this screenshot for the location of the Treasure.)

Approach the screw in the middle of the platform. Use the Grapple to catch either metal ring and move Lara clockwise until she reaches the exact opposite side. Pull the cable to rotate the screw and make it go down. With the Grapple still attached, move Lara again clockwise to the other side and pull the cable to rotate the screw even more. (This page shows the process.)

In the cut scene, Thor's head will straighten up and his second hand will move, granting the access to the small chamber into his chest.

Locate the lowest pillar close to the screw. Jump to grab the handhold on the pillar, then jump up to grab the top. Pull up and pick up the Health Potion. Turn to face Thor's statue and jump to grab the bottom of the stairs that lead in the chest. Pull up and go up the stairs to enter the chamber. (See this page for screenshots.)

In the next cut scene, Lara enters the small chamber and tries to take Thor's belt. While the ornaments turn to dust, a small stone remains, whose glow echoes the gauntlets. When Lara grabs it and puts it on her own belt, the artifact creates a halo similar to the gauntlets one.

The wooden ramp at the beginning of the level is down - If you have come to this point and the ramp is down, you have encountered a bug that was activated in the first part, Unnamed Days. In that level, after getting the Jaguar Head you drive to the first calendar puzzle. There is a fork in this area where you have to go right and solve the puzzle. If, upon reaching this area you go left, you will meet a spiked pit with a wooden ramp. Just before that, the game creates a Checkpoint. If you die after this Checkpoint (and you risk to fall into the pit and die) before the game creates another Checkpoint, you will activate the bug in Midgard Serpent.

To avoid activating the bug, you have to proceed in the level as described in the Unnamed Days walkthrough, enter the building with the first calendar puzzle and let the cut scene play (this will load the Xibablba level). Then you will not activate the bug even if you die on the specific spot.

If you have activated the bug, you have to load a saved game at the beginning of Southern Mexico, or at least after getting the Jaguar Head and before going left at the fork. Then replay the level by first going to the first calendar puzzle. The PC players can download this saved game that takes Lara at the beginning of Midgard Serpent.

Land Of The Dead

(Important bug warning - You are advised to save MANUALLY at least twice each part. This level can be proved really buggy and make you unable to finish it. If you have not downloaded the PC patch, do it now. Among other fixes, the game autosaves at the beginning of each part. So, in case you activate a bug, you can load an autosave and start from the beginning of the part or level instead of the game.)

Turn around, exit the chamber and drop to the ground.

Preparing the area for the Relic - If you want the Relic, there are some things you have to do first (otherwise, skip to the part of the walkthrough Climbing to the middle level).

With Thor's belt and gauntlets, Lara can move the tall pillar opposite the statue. Grab it and push it to the other side of the depression (as shown in this screenshot). Make sure you push it to the end until it cannot go any farther. Now use the Grapple to catch either metal ring on the screw. This time, move Lara anticlockwise until she reaches the opposite side. Pull the cable to rotate the screw and make it rise. Repeat the same process once more.

In the brief cut scene, Thor lowers his head and brings his hammer back to his chest.

Climbing to the middle level - Climb on top of the lowest pillar where you got the Health Potion earlier. (See this page for the following sequence.) With Thor's statue to your back, look above and to the left to locate the metal ring underneath the serpent statue's chin. Use the Grapple to catch the ring and jump off the pillar. Lara's weight opens the serpent's mouth and toxic water starts falling from there. This means that the water level in the pool is being raised, so you have to move quickly. If the water reaches you, Lara will die instantly. Turn slightly to the left, swing and jump to grab the handhold on the pillar ahead. Jump to grab the handhold above, then jump to the safe ledge on the left.

Alternatively, once you grapple the metal ring, climb up the cable to the top until Lara is hanging beneath the serpent's chin. Turn to face the pillar on the left, but do not swing, because the deadly falling water is just behind you. Press Forward and Jump to leap off the cable and grab the handhold on the pillar. Traverse to the left and pull up on the stone ledge.

Middle level - Go to the right and approach the edge of the ledge. Jump over the toxic water to grab the handhold on the wall (as shown in this screenshot). Climb up to the topmost handhold and traverse to the right. Jump to grab the stone ledge on the right and pull up. You passed from here before when you did the climbing down from the upper level to the middle one.

Once again, jump up to grab the beam and pull up. Walk on the longer beam and this time jump over the gap (this part collapsed earlier, remember?). Jump to the next beam and walk to the other side. Drop to the ground and go to the right. Two mayan thralls attack here, so take care of them.

Getting for the Relic - (This page shows the following process.) Climb on the big stone block and walk to te other side. Jump to the pillar you moved earlier, then to the next one on the left. Jump to grab the edge of Thor's hammer and pull up. Walk to the higher part on the right and press the Interact button to get the Relic from Thor's right eye.

(Note about the Relic - If you cannot get the Relic because you did not move the pillar and Thor's hammer, you still can do it. Return back to the other side of the middle level and use the horizontal pole to lower the water level. Go down and do the two required things: rotate the screw in order Thor's hammer to return back to its original position and move the tall pillar so you can reach it from the stone ledge. For details, see Preparing the area for the Relic above.)

Climbing to the upper level - Walk back to the lower part of Thor's hammer and turn to face the entrance (the statue should be behind you). Look above and to the right to locate the metal ring underneath the serpent statue's chin. Use the Grapple to catch the ring and jump off the ledge. As before, Lara's weight opens the serpent's mouth and toxic water starts falling from there. This means that the water level in the pool is being raised even more, so you have to move quickly. Climb to the top of the cable until Lara is hanging underneath the serpent's chin. Turn slightly to the right if necessary and jump forward to grab the stone ledge; pull up. (This page shows the above sequence.)

Upper level - Climb up the rocks to the left and jump to grab the handhold on the wall (as shown in this screenshot). Traverse to the left around the corner and keep traversing to the end. Jump back to land in front of the entrance.

Before leaving, get the level's last two Treasures. With the entrance on you right and the pool on your left, go to the other side of the ledge, where you will find a stone block (as shown in this screenshot). Passing from this point earlier, you heard the chime signaling the Treasure, but you could not find any. Now, with Thor's belt and gauntlets, Lara can move this stone block. Do it and pick up the two Treasures (49 and 50/50) that were hidden beneath the block.

Returning back - Go through the entrance, which is the exit now since you return back. Head up the stairs until you reach the fallen rocks. Climb through the opening and drop down at the other side. If you did not get the Xibalba Key before, get it now. Get the bike and drive back to the next set of fallen rocks. To continue with the bike, push/ pull the stone block on the left in order to create a passage.

Get the bike, drive up the several flights of stairs to return back to the room with the Lords of Xibalba statues. Three giant spiders are waiting for you here, so either deal wth them or totally ignore them. The stone door opens as you approach, so drive through it.

Drive up the stairs and follow the hallway until you reach the first spiked pit. Jump over and do the same for the second pit. If you did not kill the spiders before, they will follow you up to this point, but they will not be able to pass the second pit, so you are safe.

The wooden ramps of the third spiked pit are down, so you have to raise them. Dismount and jump to grab the horizontal pole on the right hand wall. Climb on it and jump to grab the next pole above. Stand on it and jump to the third pole on the opposite wall. From there, turn to face the third pit and jump to grab the handhold on the pillar. This is a mechanism that Lara's weight lowers and raises the wooden ramps of the third pit. Drop down, get the bike and jump over the pit.

Follow the hallway as it goes until you reach the first room. Place the Xibalba Key in the empty spot to the right of the switch and use the latter to open the exit (which is actually the way you came in). Get the bike and with a good run up, jump over the deep pit in the doorway.

In the cut scene, Lara calls Zip and asks him if he finally could locate where Richard Croft thought Thor's Hammer was. Zip sends the coordinates to Lara's PDA and she also asks him if he has made any progress on the other project. Zip says he has not tracked them down yet and Lara says she will call again when she reaches Jan Mayen Island.
