LARA CROFT WAY NEW DERBY ROAD NAME

[ February 26th 2010 ]

Derby City Council have announced Lara Croft Way as the winning entry of an online vote to name a new section of the city's ring road. The Tomb Raider star was first conceived in Derby by British studio Core Design before being exported to U.S. studio Crystal Dynamics.

Derby City councilor Lucy Care, said: "The vote really captured the imagination of people from across the world. Despite my lack of gaming knowledge, I accept that a majority of 89% for Lara Croft is too overwhelming to ignore. She was created in Derby and deserves to stand alongside some of the more traditional icons of the city."

Lara Croft Way had been shortlisted as a possible candidate along with John Flamsteed Way, Griffon Way, Merlin Way, Sorocold Way, Steve Bloomer Way, Eagle Way and Mercian Way.
