Level 6: Jan Mayen Island

Watch the intro cutscene.

[Checkpoint] We've got the bike again. Now we have to drive along the ice pathways. Drive left and take the left path to jump a gap.

[Checkpoint] Drive left and make sure you have enough speed to jump the gap. Follow this pathway down. Be careful not to drive over the edge, but keep your speed up.

[Checkpoint] Jump over this gap and turn right. Jump the gap here and go through the ice tunnel. Follow this piece of ice around to the right and jump several more gaps before coming to another ice cave. Go through here and shoot the wall to clear the way. Drive straight forward.

[Checkpoint] Drive forward and jump the gap. Follow this pathway down and jump another gap.

[Checkpoint] Drive down the path through the ice tunnel, jump two gaps, and continue on through the next ice tunnel. You will arrive at a large open area with a huge column in the center. There is a cutscene where Lara gets off the bike and looks around.

[Checkpoint] Get back on the bike and drive down the spiraling ramp all the way to the bottom. Stay on the outer edge near the wall to avoid falling through the holes in the path. Shoot the thralls if you feel like it. At the bottom, kill the thralls that attack you. You can run over them, shoot them from the bike, or get off and fight them the old fashioned way. If you want to use grenades, save a few for later. When they are dead, a cutscene will play where Lara realizes that this doorway is Valgrind, the gate of the dead. Run over to the huge central column and grab one of the bars around the base. Spin the column around as far as you can to open Valgrind. Get back on the bike and drive through the open gateway.

[Checkpoint] Drive down the hallway, turn right, and follow the path. Go up on the ramp near the wall to jump over the rubble. Follow the path and go left. Go down this hallway and watch out for the holes in the floor on the left side. Gather speed and go up the ramp on the right side to jump the gap. Go around the corner, up a ramp, and down the hall. At the end, your path is blocked by rubble so get off the bike. Hop up over the rubble and jump down to the other side to see a doorway. Go through the doorway to the ice bridge.

[Checkpoint] Run down the ice bridge and watch the cutscene. After the cutscene, an Adrenaline Moment will trigger. Wait until you are close enough to the pillar in front of you, then jump to grab the ledge. Hop up onto the top of the pillar.

[Checkpoint] Hang down the left side and drop to the ledge. Jump to the left to grab a ledge on the next pillar. Drop down onto the pole and shimmy to the end over the middle of the slope. Drop down and slide to the bottom to land on a balance beam. Walk to the end and jump up to grab the ledge. Shimmy around the right corner twice to get to the opposite side. Drop down onto another balance beam. Walk to the end and jump to reach the ledge. Shimmy right all the way around the pillar until you are in a position where you can hop up to stand on the ledge and then wall jump against the nearby pillar to reach the top.

[Checkpoint] You are now on the walkway on the left side of the room and you can reach two doorways from here. The far doorway is caved in, so enter the near doorway and watch out for the collapsing segment of the walkway. Follow the hallway down to the end (it doesn't matter if you go left or right since they both lead to the same place). At the end of the hallway, you will get a cutscene as Lara discovers a Yeti thrall. After the cutscene ends, you have to kill it. I shot it with the uzis until it was unconscious (switch weapons with the + key). Then I couldn't get the jumping trick to work so I quickly attached a sticky grenade (using + while in combat mode) and backed off until it exploded. Now that the room is clear, you can continue on your way. At the far end of the room (opposite the entrance) there is a mechanism with two weights rising and falling. Wait for one of the weights to reach the ground and jump up to grab the edge of it. Hop up to the top and lean back, waiting until you can jump onto a pole behind you (Lara will let go with one arm and lean out even more when she can make it). Jump to the pole and wait for it to spin to the top, then jump to stand on it and jump again to grab the moving chain. You may have to shimmy Lara to the side a bit and try a few times before she grabs the chain. Ride the chain to the platform and go through the doorway.

[Checkpoint] Run to the end of the hall (again, both left and right paths lead to the same place). You will reach another doorway where you can see a giant hammer swinging back and forth. Jump to grab the horizontal pole that you can reach. Stand on top of it and jump to the next pole. Swing and wait until the hammer is near, then jump to grab the hammer. Shimmy around the right corner of the hammer. Now you will see a platform below. Lean back away from the hammer and jump just before the hammer passes that platform. When you land on the platform, the camera will show you a series of ledges down the far side.

[Checkpoint] You can see a doorway on the other side of a small gap, but it leads to a dead end. The side of your platform near the door is uneven with the left half sticking out further than the right half. Hang down the right half and drop down to the ledge below you. Shimmy right and drop down three more ledges to reach a big ledge. Shimmy around the right corner as far as you can go, then drop down two more ledges and shimmy around the left corner. Drop down another ledge and jump right. You are now hanging from a ledge which goes all the way around a pillar with a sloped top. Shimmy left around the ledge until you can see another ledge on the pillar to your right (the camera should shift to show you this). Pull up to stand on your ledge, then sidestep right and jump to grab the other ledge. Shimmy right and drop down to land on a balance beam. Walk to the other side and jump forward to reach a ledge on another pillar. Shimmy right and jump to reach a ledge going all the way around the pillar to your right. Pull up to stand on the ledge, then wall jump between the pillars to reach a higher ledge. Shimmy around the left corner to the center of this side, then drop down to land on a balance beam. Walk to the other side and hop up to grab the ledge. Shimmy around the left corner and pull up to stand on the ledge. Wall jump between the pillars to reach the top of the shorter pillar.

[Checkpoint] Turn right and jump to reach the walkway. The far doorway is caved in, so turn left and go through the near doorway. Follow this hallway down to the end (it doesn't matter if you go left or right). You are in another room with a mechanism that has weights going up and down. Wait for one of the weights to reach the ground, then hop up to grab the ledge. Hop up again to grab the top edge, then lean back and wait until you can jump to one of the spinning poles. From here, wait until the pole is at the top, then jump up to stand on it and jump again to reach the moving chain. Ride the chain to the platform and go through the doorway.

[Checkpoint] Run to the end of this hallway (left or right) and when you reach the end, you'll see another hammer. Jump up to the shorter pole, stand on top of it, and jump to the higher pole. Swing and wait for the hammer to get close, then jump and grab the ledge on the hammer. Shimmy around the right corner and jump to the right to grab the right side of the hammer. When it gets near the wall, jump right to grab one of the ledges on the wall. Go to the big long ledge and shimmy right as far as you can, then jump right onto the immobile hammer. Pull up and run through the doorway behind the hammer. Go to the end of the hallway (left or right) and discover that the mechanism in this room has stopped. This time we are on the upper level, so grab the chain on the right and shimmy over the poles. Drop down onto the top pole, swing, and jump to reach the weight. It will slowly fall down to the bottom. Drop down and turn around to face the doorway. On the left wall, there is a mechanism with small gears. Go to it and start a mini-puzzle.

Use the torch to repair the broken gear (trace the cracks while holding A). Then take the medium gear in the middle and move it up to the top center peg. Take the other medium gear and put it on the bottom peg. Put the small gears on the left and middle pegs to complete the puzzle and reactivate the mechanism.

[Checkpoint] Wait for one of the weights to reach the ground. Quickly run in between the weight and the wall. Do a wall jump against the wall to reach the top edge of the weight. Shimmy around the corner to the center of the weight and lean back until you can jump to a pole. When the pole gets to the top, stand on it and jump to the chain. Right the chain to the platform and go through the doorway. Run to the end of the hall (left or right) and discover that the hammer is now moving. Jump to the short pole, stand on it, and jump to the higher pole. Swing around it and jump when you can reach the hammer. Shimmy around the right corner and jump to the right side of the hammer. Hop up to the top of the hammer and wait for it to enter the doorway on the right side of the room. Then jump into the doorway. You are now overlooking a tall room with Eitr at the bottom. There is a grapple ring on the opposite wall. Attach the grapple and run off the platform so you are now hanging against the wall. Descend down the grapple line until you can safely land on the platform right below you. Across the room you will see a doorway with a platform in front of it. Jump across to the platform and go through the doorway. Run out onto the walkway.

[Checkpoint] Straight ahead you will see a sloping pillar. Jump to it and slide down to land on a balance beam. Walk to the end and jump up to grab a ledge. Shimmy around the left corner and pull up to stand on the ledge, then jump over to the platform in front of Lara. Walk to the right onto a balance beam and go to the end. Jump up to reach a ledge. Shimmy around the right corner and pull up to stand on the ledge. Perform a wall jump against the nearby pillar to get to the top. Now you should be standing on the walkway again. Right in front of you to the left you will see the only secret in this level. Run over and pick up the gold bar to get Secret #28 (1/1). Now turn around and run around the walkway to the left until you get to the wall. There is a grapple ring above you, so use it to swing to the walkway on the right. You will land on a small platform. Jump across a gap to the right to reach another section of the walkway. Follow this walkway around into a doorway. Run down the hall (left or right). When you can see the new room ahead of you, a human thrall will run into view so kill it. Run into the room.

[Checkpoint] There is a moving mechanism in this room too. Wait for one of the weights to reach the floor. Then do a wall jump against the nearby wall to grab onto the weight. Shimmy around the side and lean back until you can jump onto one of the moving poles. Wait for the pole to get to the top, then stand on it and jump to the chain. Ride the chain across to the platform and go through the doorway. Follow this hallway (left or right) and come upon another moving hammer. Jump to grab the shorter pole, stand on top of it, and jump to the higher pole. Swing around this pole and jump when the hammer gets close enough. Shimmy around the right corner of the hammer. Now the hammer will pass over a walkway, so drop down to land on the walkway. Turn around and run towards the doorway.

[Checkpoint] Go through the doorway and up the stairs. A cutscene will play in which Lara gets Thor's Hammer. Then the level will end.
