Level 4: Croft Manor

A cutscene will start this level off. (I suggest you make a save and keep it forever in case you are ever replaying the game and get the missing pole glitch at the end of Thailand.)

[Checkpoint] You start off in a tunnel underground, so follow it forward. When you get to the end, drop down onto the platform below and hang off the edge to the left. Jump away from the wall to land on another platform. Drop down again to reach the ground. Run to the opposite side and climb up the two short walls to get to the rest of the tunnel. Follow it along and crouch through the part with the low ceiling. When you get to the end, drop down and follow this path. You will come out onto a large platform overlooking a vast abyss. Ahead of you there is a reinforced cave tunnel. Jump across to land there and continue down the path.

[Checkpoint] Keep going along the tunnel. Do a diving roll when you get to the blocked area with a small hole in the bottom. Move to the end and reach a broken bridge. Immediately turn right and see a gold bar on the ground. Pick it up to get Secret #11 (1/7). Turn back to the bridge. Hang down off the right side. Line yourself up with the piece of bridge below you and drop down to it. Shimmy right and jump to catch the piece of bridge on the other side. Shimmy around the corner to the right and jump up to grab the ledge above you. Shimmy around the corner to the right and press upwards on the movement stick to climb up a level, then jump up to the main part of the bridge. Turn left and run to the tunnel.

[Checkpoint] Follow the path to an open room with several pillars. Turn back the way you came and you should see the path you came from on the left and a new tunnel on the right. Go into the new tunnel. Follow it up past a closed gate and on to a platform overlooking the pillar room. Jump across to the nearest pillar and walk across the balance beam to another pillar. From here, jump straight across to the wall with the niches in it. Lara will grab one of the niches. Jump to the right to grab a higher ledge, move upwards with the movement stick to climb to the next one, and pull up into the larger alcove. Run to either side around the central pillar and follow the tunnel to a new area with a pool and a waterwheel.

[Checkpoint] Jump down into the water and swim to the platform on the far side to the left. Climb up onto the platform and jump up to grab the ledge. Jump up twice more, then shimmy around the left corner. Jump away from the ledge to grab a platform behind you. Run across and step up onto the debris so you can jump to the ledge on the wall. Jump to the ledge to the left, then jump up twice. Shimmy right and jump to the platform here. There is a grapple ring in the ceiling. Grapple it even if you can't see it and retract the grapple. This will pull a large gear up inside the wall which you can see through the hole.

[Checkpoint] Now hang off the side of the platform and drop down to the platform below. Run to the side with the debris that you used to get up to the ledges. This time, face away from the wall. There is a platform on the opposite side which has a tall pillar on it. Jump to the platform and then climb up the pillar. Position Lara so that her back is to the vertical wooden plank, then jump to grab it. Jump and climb to the top and then jump behind you to reach another platform. There is a greenish stone wall here which has a narrow ledge. Run Lara into the ledge and she should automatically put her back to it so you can sidestep along the ledge. After you've gone around the ledge, jump to another vertical wooden plank. Pull up so that Lara balances on it, then jump to the pole to the left. Use the pole to swing and jump to a platform with a ladder built into the wall. Climb up the ladder and jump to the right to reach another platform. The camera shifts to show you a grapple ring in the ceiling. Use it to swing to the platform on the opposite side of the gap. You will see a wooden square in the wall which has four clamps holding it in place. Enter combat mode and shoot all four clamps to release the waterfall and power the waterwheel. This opens the gate we passed by earlier.

[Checkpoint] Jump into the water and swim to the far side away from the waterfall. Climb out on the platform and then climb up several ledges to the left to reach the entrance of this room. Run back out past the central square pillar until you can see the pillar room. From this vantage point, you should clearly see a gold bar on a platform to the left. Carefully jump down to the square top of the pillar in between you and that platform. Jump across to the platform and pick up the gold bar to get Secret #12 (2/7). Drop down to the ground floor and go to the tunnel which leads out of this room. Take the right tunnel and follow it up to the gate which is now open. Go through the gate and run down the tunnel to reach a cathedral with construction platforms around the room. Drop down onto the nearest platform.

[Checkpoint] Drop down to the next platform and jump to the left to reach a balance beam. Walk to the right and turn to the next balance beam, then jump forward to reach a platform with a gold bar. Pick it up to get Secret #13 (3/7). Jump back to the balance beam and safely drop down to the ground. Run to the opposite side of the room (the right side when entering the room) and jump up onto a wooden platform near the broken pillar. Use it to jump up to the nearest balance beam. Jump across to the higher balance beam and make your way over to the stone platform on the right side of the room. Pick up another gold bar for Secret #14 (4/7). Drop down to the ground floor. In the center of the room there is a box with several small gears in it. Press - to initiate another mini-puzzle. Place the small gear on the highest peg and place the medium gear on the next highest peg to solve the puzzle. Gates will open allowing you to enter the other half of the cathedral.

[Checkpoint] You can go to the next area through either gate. Let's go left first. Run up the stairs to the left and go through the gate. Follow the hallway until there is an opening to the right with stairs in it. Climb up the stairs to get to a balcony overlooking the main room. Immediately to the right you will see a pole sticking out of the wall. Jump up to grab the pole and jump again to stand on top of the pole. Jump once more to grab the ledge and climb up to the platform above you. Pick up the gold bar to get Secret #15 (5/7) and then drop back down to the ground. Go to the middle alcove on the right where there is another mini-puzzle.

You have to rearrange the four Byzantine kings into the proper order of the painting. When you move a tile down, you can see the background which shows the tile that belongs in that space. Move the left two tiles down. Move the third tile all the way to the left to match the background. Move the second tile in the bottom row straight up where it belongs. Move the tile on the right side one space to the left. Move the tile in the bottom row all the way to the right and then up to complete the puzzle. Now the lever will work.

[Checkpoint] Run over to the lever and spin it all the way around clockwise so that the light forms the figure of an angel on the stained glass window. Run back down stairs and make a left. Run straight through this room into the opposite hallway and go left up the stairs on this side. When you reach the balcony, go to the middle alcove and jump up onto the pole. Jump to stand on the pole and jump again to reach the ledge. Climb up to the platform and pick up the gold bar to collect Secret #16 (6/7), then drop back down to the ground. Go to the alcove next to the lever. Now it's time to solve a mini-puzzle with the Byzantine queens.

Move the left three tiles down. Move the rightmost tile all the way to the left. Move the third tile in the bottom row up and to the left. Move the bottom right tile all the way to the right and up. Move the tile in the bottom row two spaces to the right and then up to complete the puzzle. Now this lever works too.

[Checkpoint] Grab the lever and turn it completely clockwise so that the light forms the figure of an angel on the stained glass window. Now the way forward is possible.

[Checkpoint] Let go of the lever and run down the stairs. Make a right and enter the large room with a newly risen switch in the center. Grab one of the levers (it matters which side of the lever you are standing on, so try the other side if Lara refuses to grab). Walk around in a circle as far as you can to open the door above you. Let go of the lever and run to the giant stone pillar in the middle of the gate. Climb up the ledges on the right side and pull up onto the pillar. There is a grapple ring in the ceiling, so use it to swing across to the platform with the newly opened doorway. Run down the hallway.

[Checkpoint] Continue through the hallway and up the stairs to reach a storage room. A cutscene will play.

[Checkpoint] Now you will be attacked by a tiger thrall, which is an undead zombie tiger. It will keep coming back to life unless you either kill it with a grenade or stomp on it when it is down. Shoot this thrall until it falls, then go towards it and press A to jump on it and permanently kill it. Another thrall will attack you, so kill that one too. Reorient yourself by running to the entrance. Now, go into the room and run to the desk. Make a left run to the wall where you will find a lever. Use the torch to cut through the metal near the blue band. Now use the lever and a nearby receptacle will open, revealing a gold bar. Pick it up to get Secret #17 (7/7), the final secret in this level. Go to the glowing purple pillar. Grab it and position it near where the lever is. The nearby broken pillar has a ring around it, so jump up and use this ledge to jump onto the purple pillar. From the purple pillar, jump to a platform in the wall which leads to a tunnel. When you enter the tunnel, a cutscene plays and the gauntlet no longer works.

[Checkpoint] Run down the tunnel and another cutscene plays. This one should be familiar since it is where the prologue started. This next section is identical to the prologue. Follow the hall to the short wall, jump up, and go pull the switch to open the door. Go through the doorway.

[Checkpoint] Dive under the rubble to the right, then run forward and turn left. Climb up onto the white pile of rubble. Jump down to the other side and shoot the weak door. Run through and jump to grab the ledge on the far wall. Shimmy left, jump up, shimmy left some more, drop down, and keep going left. At the end, jump away from the wall to land on the floor. Run to the box, push it against the wall, and use it to jump onto the ledge near the ceiling. Shimmy right and jump right to land on the floor. Grapple the door and pull it towards you to make a bridge. Go across and enter the balcony.

[Checkpoint] Go left and run to the end of the balcony. Turn right and use the grapple to swing over the stairs to the opposite balcony. Run right until you can't go any further, then drop down through the gap in the banister. The cutscene from the end of the prologue will play, only this time you get to see the rest of it.

[Checkpoint] Go to the right side of the fire place (beneath the portrait of Lara's parents) and jump up onto the ledge. Keep going up and around to the right until you can jump back onto the balcony. Now you are on the other side of the flaming rubble, near the tech room. Jump towards the glass window to grab a ledge. Climb up onto the top of the glass window, which acts like a balance beam. Drop down on the other side and watch another cutscene to end the level. Next will be an FMV which is a cutscene captured from the 360/PC/PS3 version of the game so it is higher quality.
