The casting
of Voight was announced by director Simon West
and producers Lawrence Gordon, Lloyd Levin and
Colin Wilson, in London this week. Voight was
on a plane to England September 17 to join the
cast and crew at Pinewood Studios outside London
on September 25 for his week-long stint as Lord
Croft, explorer and adventurer. Producer Lloyd
Levin said, "We are very fortunate to have this
incredible actor who represents the best of his
generation."
Director
Simon West declared himself a great fan of Jon
Voight's work and said, "I'm expecting great things
from Jon Voight who has brought so many brilliant
characters to life." Voight is one of the finest
actors of his generation. His Oscar came for his
stunning paraplegic Vietnam veteran in Coming
Home with Jane Fonda. He made his early impact
in John Schlesinger's Midnight Cowboy, winning
his first Oscar nomination in the company of Dustin
Hoffman's pathetic Ratso. He was immediately in
demand and the early films included Catch 22,
John Boorman's much admired Deliverance, the delightful
screen version of Pat Conroy's book Conrack, and
The Odessa File, based on Frederick Forsyth's
novel.
More
recently Voight has appeared in Mission: Impossible,
Anaconda, The Rainmaker, John Boorman's The General,
Enemy of the State and Pearl Harbor. His third
Oscar nomination was for Andrei Konchalovsky's
Runaway Train.
