It's official - Tomb Raider The Movie, directed by Simon West (Elizabeth & Con Air) and packing the power of Paramount Pictures, begins filming Monday at Pinewood Studios, London after months of preparation. Angelina Jolie, cast to play adventurer heroine Lara Croft, was in London Thursday for the British Premier of Gone In 60 Seconds where she was said to be excited about the upcoming role.

British director Simon West has been talking to Variety about why he decided to direct the upcoming 'Tomb Raider'. The 'Con Air' helmer says he initially rejected plans to direct the adaptation of the video game phenomenon, but eventually came to see the project as like coming across James Bond in 1961. Despite never having played the video game, West says he set about creating James Bond on acid, James Bond as it should be, slightly sadistic, supercool, with a surreal element.

The kids should really like that one! Jolie says, noting that her new hubby, Billy Bob Thornton, will be making an appearance in the film as well. Billy's playing a barber. He's cutting hair and I'm shooting guns! Yeah, I've been in England for three weeks and we will be there for over a month more just doing training. I'm training throughout the film, but it's been great for me. I get up and do yoga at 7 in the morning, which is insane! I'm on protein shakes, and they've taken my cigarettes and alcohol and sugar away from me -- and Billy -- because I'm far away.
