DJIMON HOUNSOU STARS IN CONSTANTINE

West African born actor Djimon Hounsou has spoken of his role opposite Matrix star Keanu Reeves in the upcoming motion picture adaptation Constantine which assaults the Silver Screen in September 2004. Based on the DC/Vertigo comic book Hellblazer and written by Kevin Brodbin, Mark Bomback and Frank Capello, Constantine tells the story of irreverent supernatural detective John Constantine (Keanu Reeves), who has literally been to hell and back. Tomb Raider star Djimon Hounsou takes on the role as Papa Midnite, a witch doctor tapped into the psyche of Reeves' detective.

MOB FILM COMPANY TAPS GERARD BUTLER

Mob Film Company has tapped Glaswegian actor Gerard Butler for the title role in the multi-million pound blockbuster Robert Burns which begins filming this summer, displacing rumours the lead would be snatched by Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp. Butler recently appeared alongside Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie in the Par pic Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life.

HBO TAPS CIARAN HINDS FOR ROME EPIC

HBO has tapped Irish actor Ciaran Hinds to play Julius Caesar in the epic drama series Rome. The production, in conjunction with the BBC, will broadcast in 2005 on HBO and BBC2, The Hollywood Reporter via Reuters reports. Rome, whose production will be based at Rome’s Cinecitta Studios with location shoots throughout Europe and North Africa, also stars Tony winner Lindsay Duncan as Servilia, Caesar’s longtime mistress.

PINEWOOD SHEPPERTON UPGRADES STUDIOS

Pinewood Shepperton has announced the studio is upgrading the 56-fader, two-position AMS Neve DFC digital film mixing console in its Theatre 1 to a 68-fader, three-position console. Expansion upgrades Pinewood Shepperton's console to one of the few three-positioned DFCs in all of Europe. The studio, which houses Europe's largest sound stage, has provided special effect facilities for Ion Films James Bond motion pictures and Paramount Pictures Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life.
