GERARD BULTER TAPPED FOR BEOWULF

Scottish actor Gerard Butler has been tapped to star in Sturla Gunnarsson's adaptation of the poem Beowulf, reports Variety Magazine. Butler, who appeared alongside Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie in Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life, will portray Norse warrior Beowult in the Canada/UK co-production. Beowulf chronicles the medieval struggle to rid the Hall of Heorot from Grendel, a murderous troll bent on a killing rampage. The 10-week shooting schedule begins in Iceland in August.

EIDOS PLC PARTNERS WITH DEEP SILVER

Eidos, one of the world's leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, today announced it has secured the worldwide online distribution publishing rights for Singles: Flirt Up Your Life. Eidos, in partnership with Deep Silver, a company of the Koch Media Group, will release Singles: Flirt Up Your Life for PC via online download. OLYMPIC FLAME BEGINS WORLD WIDE TOUR

The Olympic flame embarked on the first leg of the international torch relay Wednesday as it headed to Sydney aboard a customized aircraft dubbed Zeus. The flame arrived at the airport in its own magic lantern that will house it while airborne on its 27-country tour over the next 38 days. With the Olympic flame we are sending the message of Greece to the whole globe, said Athens chief games organizer Gianna Angelopoulos, speaking at the airport. Flag-waving traditional dancers, marching bands and massed diplomats gave the first taste of the pageant that will greet the relay on its two-month odyssey.

LARA CROFT STRENGTHENS VODAFONE LIVE!

Vodafone Group Plc has announced its Preliminary Results Year Ended 31 March 2004. The wireless Telco recorded turnover increased by 10% to 33.6 billion pounds sterling and mobile telecommunications turnover increased by 15% to 31.7 billion pounds. Profit on ordinary activities before tax, goodwill amortisation and exceptional items, increased by 19% to 10.0 billion pounds and earnings per share, before goodwill amortisation and exceptional items, increased by 34% to 9.10 pence. Free cash flow increased by 65% to 8.5 billion pounds, after 4.3 billion pounds of net cash expenditure on tangible fixed assets and 13.7 million net new proportionate mobile customers in the year, bringing the total to 133.4 million.
