BRITISH FILM INDUSTRY SCORES BIG TIME
Good news for the British film industry this week as new figures released by the UK Film Council showed record levels of production last year, in tandem with the second highest figure in cinema admissions in 30 years. In addition, the 10 most successful UK films last year raked in over $1bn worldwide between them, despite the absence of a Bond or Potter film. The best performers were Love Actually ($185m), Johnny English ($158m), and Lara Croft Tomb Raider 2: the Cradle of Life ($156m).

TOMB RAIDER COMIC TIES WITH TR7 LAUNCH
Top Cow Productions, in conjunction with Eidos, Ltd, is announcing that the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider comic book will wind down its first volume and relaunch in conjunction with the release of the 7th Tomb Raider video game in the summer of 2005. Top Cow is participating in the re-design of the new game. Top Cow plans to end the 1st volume with issue #50, written by Dan Slott (JLA, She-Hulk), shipping to comic book stores in January.

BEOWULF EPIC BOUND FOR HOLLYWOOD
Hollywood's never-ending quest for epic material has taken it back to the first horror story - Beowulf, the Old English poem of monster versus man. Two film versions of the eighth-century Saxon work are under way as studios rush to capitalise on the fascination with myth and legend exposed by the success of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. J R R Tolkein, who wrote the Middle Earth series, cited Beowulf as one of his key influences.
