LARA CROFT MORE POPULAR THAN JORDAN

British gamers would rather go on a date with the lovely Lara Croft than spend an evening with ultra pneumatic glamour model Jordan, a survey has revealed. The poll, conducted at the Game Stars Live exhibition, found that 61 per cent of the young men asked preferred the fictional brunette. There are obviously a lot of pixel men out there. Chris Tufnell, 19, a marketing assistant from St. Albans, was evidently drawing on his many years of dating experience when he remarked: Lara typifies everything men wish for in a partner. She's strong, smart and looks wicked in shorts. I can't imagine an evening out with Jordan being anything other than mind-numblingly dull.

GAME ON FOR VEHICLES IN TOMB RAIDER 7

In a rather curious turn of events, Tomb Raider publisher Eidos has toiled some subterfuge of its own by sending out feelers via PSM2 magazine on the future guise of the Lara Croft franchise, now under the direction of Californian developer Crystal Dynamics. Curious in the sense that we would have expected the seventh game to have surpassed the ideas and suggestions phase and be loitering midway along the production chain if Eidos are to keep to their planned Summer 2005 rollout date.

UBISOFT WON'T PLAY GAME WITH EIDOS PLC

Eidos was on the slide yesterday, unsettled by reports that a French rival had decided not to make a takeover offer for the accident-prone computer games company. According to La Tribune, Ubisoft has decided that Eidos, worth about £150m at the close of play last night, is too expensive. All of which came as something of a surprise to many City dealers, who believed recent reports in the UK that Ubisoft was the front runner to acquire Eidos and was prepared to pay as much as 150p a share for the company which created cyber heroine Lara Croft.

THIRD TOMB RAIDER PIC BEING DISCUSSED?

Cocooned in a pageant of all things uncertain, a source attached to motion picture giant Paramount Pictures has confirmed the studio is still negotiating a third Lara Croft-helmed movie to conclude the trilogy originally touted by Lara Croft Tomb Raider director Simon West. Paramount's Tomb Raider train spectacularly derailed in April after franchise producer Lawrence Gordon dismissed a concluding picture blaming the mediocre box-office performance of Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life.
