TOBY GARD HONOURED WITH ELSPA AWARD

The Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association has awarded Lara Croft creator Toby Gard with an inaugural place in ELSPA's new Hall Of Fame, a distinguished Who's Who initiative aimed at honouring game designers and creators who have made pivotal contributions to the UK games industry, Games Paper reports. Tomb Raider, developed by Derbyshire-based studio Core Design, is one of the video-game industry's most potent franchise with 30 million unit sales to date and two major motion pictures starring Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie.

THE CRADLE OF LIFE PREMIERS IN THE UK

Hollywood star Angelina Jolie delighted screaming fans as she arrived for the UK premiere of her new film, Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Jolie is back as action heroine Lara Croft - the lycra-clad archaeologist and explorer who originated as a video game character. Dressed in a long black dress with a plunging neckline, Jolie, 28, embarked on a 25-minute walkabout where she signed autographs and posed for pictures. She was joined at the premiere in London's Leicester Square by the film's director Jan de Bont, and co-stars Ciaran Hinds and Noah Taylor.

EIDOS PLC ANNOUNCES THE OSIRIS CODEX

Eidos, one of the world's leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, announces that Lara Croft is coming to the world's biggest gaming platform with Tomb Raider: The Osiris Codex. The game has been developed by mobile games studio iomo for Java-enabled mobile phones. Tomb Raider: The Osiris Codex will be released in three parts, starting with 'The Osiris Codex' in the U.S. and Europe this autumn. It will be available through soon to be announced network operators and will feature heavily in their autumn marketing campaigns.
