Discreet, a Quebec-based software company which specialises in computer-simulated effects, is about to launch a package allowing small film-makers everywhere to compete on equal terms with the biggest California studios.

HIGH FLYER ON AIR OF CONFIDENCE

As he flew through the air, risking his life over a row of parked cars, you’d be forgiven for thinking The Kangaroo Kid should be taken more seriously than his name suggests. The professional stunt rider, alias Australian Matt Coulter, performed death-defying tricks in Hollywood films Tomb Raider and The Mummy Returns - and was equally spectacular at Stoke Park on Monday.

AIDAN QUINN IS THE RAGGY BOY

Aidan Quinn is to keep filming in Ireland even after his current project Dark Eagle finishes shooting. Quinn will stay on to work on a new movie called Raggy Boy according to reports in the Irish press last night. The film is reportedly based on a novel based on the Spanish Civil War by the Irish writer Patrick Galvin.

ACTIVISION TAKES AIM AT ELECTRONIC ARTS

There's been no shortage of action the last couple of days in game software publisher Activision. Activision shares jumped Tuesday to a 52-week high after the company posted stronger-than-expected earnings, showing that its business is growing even faster than the rest of the revved-up video game industry. But the stock gave back those gains Wednesday as the company rolled out plans to cash in on its recent success with a 7.5 million-share offering.

OFFICIALS DISMISSED FOR ALLEGED THEFT

Two Panamanian National Culture Institute officials were dismissed for their alleged involvement in the theft of four Pre-Columbian gold pieces, officials said. INAC Director Rafael Ruiloba told EFE that the pieces were stolen two months ago from a safe inside the agency's treasury.
