PARAMOUNT MARKETS LARA OVER JOLIE

Paramount Pictures unconventional marketing approach to Tomb Raider was a conscious decision, according to studio vice chairman Rob Friedman. We wanted the character identified as a character. Friedman said. The movie poster certainly sports the key elements that turned the Tomb Raider series into a multimillion-selling video game franchise: a voluptuous female in tight clothes holding big guns. But the only name above the Tomb Raider logo is Lara Croft, Jolie’s character. The actress’ name is relegated to the nearly unreadable text of the credit block.

EIDOS ANNOUNCES NEW FINANCE DIRECTOR

EIDOS, the computer games company best-known for creating cyber-babe Lara Croft, appointed a finance director yesterday after a six-month search. Stuart Cruickshank, finance director of the Woolworths chain, joins on September 3, replacing Jeremy Lewis who left last October. Eidos shares rose 2 to 283p on the news. The troubled Tomb Raider publisher launched a deeply discounted rights issue with its results last week, to raise £51.7m, and it is hoped that the appointment of a finance director will increase investor confidence in the stock.

TOMB RAIDER PREPPED FOR PRESS EVENT

According to industry sources closely monitoring the pulse of Paramount Pictures upcoming summer blockbuster, word has rumoured to have beaded it's way down Paramount Mountain that film critics have allegedly been forbidden to review their Tomb Raider motion picture before it's premiere June 15th. Up against the likes of Pearl Harbour and The Mummy Returns in it's bid to reach the Paramount summit, these unconfirmed rumours suggest that the studio suits are already running scared from the press, amid a flurry of suggestions that production staff have been burning the midnight oil in a frantic attempt the ready the film in time for Mondays press event.

TOMB RAIDER SEQUEL FOR WEST

The first one isn't out until the autumn, but there's already plans for 'Tomb Raider 2'. The director, Simon West, says so many ideas were cut out there's enough material to do a sequel straight away.
