EIDOS REGAIN FINANCIAL POISE

Tomb Raider publishers Eidos Interactive have bounced back after last weeks disappointing interim figures with their share price closing at 155p and their traded volume totalling 622,909. The turnaround was helped by news that chief executive Michael McGarvey and development director Jeremy Heath Smith had acquired 31,000 shares each at 160p.

CAMBODIA FEELS FORCE OF FEAR

Tourism in Cambodia has experienced phenomenal growth over the past months with Americans influenced by movies like Tomb Raider - which capitalized on the religious Angkor Wat temples - being filmed in the country. However, according to a report in today’s Wall Street Journal, this increase has now felt the full force of terrorist fear with Cambodian officials reporting a dramatic decrease in bookings and U.S. citizens preferring to stay at home whilst a large contingent of holiday makers have cancelled trips altogether.

JOLIE DONATES £1M TO REFUGEES

Lara Croft Tomb Raider star Angelina Jolie has donated $1 million to help the refugees fleeing Afghanistan. The cash, equal to about £700,000, will go to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees' appeal. The UN is hoping to raise £185 million to fund humanitarian efforts in and around Afghanistan, Ananova reports today.

CORE DESIGN TO EXPAND WORKFORCE

Derbyshire based software house Core Design have released plans to recruit a further 20-25 people during the next year to expand product development at its new Pride Park headquarters, according to a report in todays Derby Evening Telegraph. The company and its parent, the entertainment software developer Eidos Interactive, are spending £42m on research and development and aim eventually to produce 80 per cent of their products in-house.
